is it safe?

NO, it's not, don't bring children there. Even as a kid when we lived on border, I did not feel safe when we would go into Mexico.

Here's an old article about their murder rate being second only to Syria, and this was like five years ago, worse now:

Bullshit, maybe if your involved in cartel shit which we have never seen in our two years here. We are driving our kids all over Mexico from playa to San Cristobal near guatamala all the way up the pacific coast.

I have had cops steal from me and lie in front of judges in the USA , have not had a single problem with a cop here in Mexico.

Family was couped up for too long so we did a road trip.

Playa del Carmen
Campache
Ciudad del Carmen
Villahermosa (not hermosa at all) ugly city
San cristobal/Chiapas
Tuxla
Salina Cruz
Oaxaca
Mexico City
San Miguel
Guadalajara
Mazatlán

On road with wife and kids and dogs.
Been a very smooth adventure.

Did you fly into Mexico or drive across US/MX border?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80159318

We drove down to Cancun, been there for two years. Yes we drove over the border.

UPDATE
We are now in Durango mx. From Mazatlán to Durango was a super pretty drive, as we got up to about 9,500 ft. Passed through a area with I would gues 50 tunnels through mountains, ‘‘twas neat .

Headed to Ciudad Juárez next.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73676743

You must be driving on the auto pista where the super tall bridge is and all the tunnels, which is a neat area. Are you going to visit the city of Durango or just pass through it on the way to Juarez.

This morning I was talking to a guy who lives in Juarez and he said there is a lot of violence there again and robberies. be on high alert the further north you go.

When you get to Torreon along the highway is the Galleria Mall and that area is really nice with a lot of American restaurants, hotels, and services. That would be a nice place to stay for the night. We always use the Real Inn and eat at Dennys and Tony Romans there.

The trip along the auto pista from Durango to Torreon is rather safe.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80025880

Yup , that was the one.

We are staying two nights in Durango. I have stayed in Torreón before. But I don’t know if we want stop there for the night because it’s so close to Durango. I’d like to get a little further then that.

I love Mexico. I have a hunch that it is going to become part of the US, once the cartels have been put down. And they will be! I think it would be so cool if our countries merged.

Viva Mexico.

^^^^^
I loved alcupoco

Dangerous very.
Fun lots

Took buses all over the city
Most of the time the bus drivers are
very drunk. Lots of fun

The taxi drivers too.

It was a blast .
We had so much fun

We didn’t go out at night

I would go again and stay in
The Diana circle
