The science and tech necessary for mRNA was researched from 1970s and the lipid nanoparticles were figured out in 2018. All that Moderna and Pfizer did was to retool their mRNA vaccine line that was already making vaccines for HIV and some cancer. They were in clinical trials when Covid happened. The 9 months were spent basically on human trials. Very little R&D. |
