Very sketchy these days with distracted drivers. I had 4 bikes in the past, mostly in my 20s. What type of bike are you looking for? My only current advice is stay away from 1 liter sport bikes until you have experience.

I haven't researched them at all but I think the new Indian bikes look cool. I also dig the Triumph cafe racer style bike as well.

I like a dual sport.

if you lean more to the road KLR 650,

if you like the dirt better then a DRZ 400

90% of bike accidents happen your first season....

start with something small, ride conservatively, and tough it out for one season...

next year buy and ride what you want.

I like the yamaha Fz1 its standard seating position but inline 4 1000cc . I have a Gen 1 . Great bike not many left to be had but the Gen 2 Fz1 is probably the most slept on underrated bike you can get . for about 7 grand you should be able to find one with less than 10k miles.

And seeing its upright position your wrists wont be numb or your back hurtin after 100 miles .

heres an example of one BILL & MELINDA GATES

Im not one of the small bike first bike crowd. I been riding alot of years and what Ive learned is if you ride like a jackass you can die on a Honda Grom 125 and if youre a disciplined person you can start on that Fz1 after you learn the throttle response.

Stay out of the gravel, and take it easy going around corners. Especially after it has rained.
Oh yeah...Wear a helmet!

Start with a dirt bike in an open field.

Re: motorcycles any suggestions first time ryder
Learn to spell rider first off...

Learn to ride safely on a beater used Honda. Kawasaki or Yamaha... like a 750cc tops... And put extra lights on it... flashing is better... for safety...

Bikes are dangerous in any bad weather or bad road conditions, like dirty roads, or gravel or just shitty roads..

Deer and dogs can kill you... so can tractor trailer tire blowouts...

Cars will pull right out in front of you... which can kill you too... so always expect them to, not the other way around.

If you live through the learning phase... and you think you like riding a lot...

Find a good BMW... take it to the BMW shop and ask them to make it as loud as they can without hurting the performance or engine... This is in my opinion, a huge safety aid... You want cars that do not see you to maybe hear you instead.. this can save your life..

Car drivers are looking out for other cars... as a rule... they just don’t see bikes sometimes and that kills lots of bikers....
