Anonymous Coward User ID: 79376355 Ireland 05/04/2021 01:22 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Okay electricity 101... A switch opens a circuit... If your switch doesn't turn the light off you have a bad switch. No amount of "electricity in the air" will cause a light to stay on when the switch is moved to the off position. Electrons need a path for current to flow if the path is interrupted by opening a switch current flow stops. Check your light switch to see if it shows signs of arcing. Do be careful electricity is deadly if you don't know what you're doing. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 73854205 United States 05/04/2021 01:22 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The night I moved into a new condo probably built on Indian land was chaos with electricity. I was painting in the after hours and then boom. All lights out. Went down to the basement to flip a couple of switches and then painted. No less than 10 times that kept happening. Each time reset the breakers. After it was all painted never happened again in 5 years. Something did not want me there but I guess they got used to me. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 76809123 United States 05/04/2021 01:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That’s weird, I was having the same problem in my bathroom! You would turn it off and it would stay on, flash, dim, and eventually go out. I replaced the lights with Edison bulbs and it’s been fine. But II’ve never had that happen before. It happened several days in a row. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79376355 Thanks, but so many switches all at once...does not make sense, two of the ceiling lights have two switches, none of them will shut the lights off. Could the power outage have caused this? It did not happen on that day. The ceiling light in the dining room has been doing this on and off for a few days, the kitchen one once before, the back hall just this evening. "You can bend it and twist it... Still wondering if humidity could be a factor, very humid today. Most of our electric is original to our home which is soon to be 100 years old. Hey Opie, Two questions do you live in a manufactured home? If so a lot of those switches are made by Hubble manufacture and they are cheap and start to go at the same time. Could be stuck on. Do they go off if you fiddle with the switch? Other question is check to see if the three lights in question are on the same circuit breaker. |

Quoting: stillhere If it had been one, no big deal...replace switch. If it was two, well, weird, our electricity was recently out again... But it is three lights. Ceiling light in kitchen, two separate wall switches, one newer, led ceiling light, maybe 5 years old. Dining room ceiling light, 100 years old, but had been working fine. And now the ceiling light in the upstairs back hall. All happened suddenly in the last couple of days. It is humid today, house had been very dry over the winter. All three switches are different ages. This has never happened to me before, and we have lived here for 30 years. Seems really odd to me, but I am no expert on electricity. you are stuck in a lucid dream. Wake up!!! I'm a J & proud zio. No amount on flipping on and off gets them to stay off. We have original to house old screw in fuses, none are hot, I believe all are on a different circuit. All other lights are fine. It did go away the next day. Maybe these things happen to scare you away from a place but it didn't work on me. Never had that in any other house I lived in. |

It's a longshot but if your meter is spinning extremely slow when ac or fridge are running you could be shorting directly to ground. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79376355 Thanks, it did rain all day today...but wouldn’t that affect more than those three lights?
