Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80125614 Actually, I did a beginner class at guitar ingenuity. Then I went back over what I knew, and went through Justin's beginner class (which was a lot more expansive then Ulrich's). But when I get to Justin's Intermediate ... it's not structured enough for me. It kind of goes off into too many directions. So that got me looking at Marty Schwartz's Blues stuff, which is more or less where I am at now. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79305244 You need to see the seriousness of what is happening today, music is probably an escape from current reality. Relaxing and doing fun things WERE fine before the onset of the New World Order, but now you need to concern yourself with surviving. I get where you're coming from. |

I've yet to find anything appealing about Zappa's playing. I Know know some people like him, but I can assure you, he's just some one not hack, guitar playing drug addict who couldn't have even gotten a gig shining Mozart's shoes. |

Nonentity User ID: 79315546 United States 05/09/2021 11:21 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I highly suggest you learn how to tune the intonation, string action height and neck tension rod. Quoting: Nonentity If you're not a precision kind of person, have a guitar shop do that for you. I've played guitar for over 20 years. I've played expensive and cheap guitars. What really makes the difference is how well it is tuned. Not just string tuning, even though that's just as important. If your intonation is out, you'll get frustrated and lose interest. But once every part listed above is tweeked just right, she'll sing so beautifully. Nothing wrong with having someone else do it who is trained. Agreed, I did have a guitar shop do the work. But now I do it myself. It can be intimidating for someone who is new. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79614481 United States 05/09/2021 12:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've learned that lots of people have a multiple of guitars. What drives this need? I get that there are strats, teles, LP's, gibsons and they give you different sounds. Keith Richards (Rolling Stones) owns over 3000 guitars. His money...he is a collector. that makes sense. |

I know Marty Schwartz says use backing tracks to learn to play the blues. I haven't started yet. I'm still just using a metronome and practicing my timing for the 12 bar sequences and walk down. It's coming up soon though. |

If you are losing time; 1. start with songs you know and love 2. play along with them in entirety until you have the structure down 3 learn your foot timing get the rhythm playing well before trying to be a soloist once you start scales, the urge is to constantly run up and down the entire 'box' and your riffing will sound indentical in all songs I don't believe in video snippet lessons when learning rhythm but for unusual chords and riffs they are great... they will show how to use just a few notes of the particular scale to make something that soulfully matches the mood of the song, and how to switch to a different scale/mode for even more mood I surf constantly and make favs of the vids I want to use, themn go back when I can. Also, in all the music you like, take note of the chord, bridge, riff that stands out or make you say 'WTF is that?' and go hinting on youtube Good Luck! don't give up! even if you just start with wanking on an E or Em and looking for notes/open strings nearby to pluck |

I do think rhythm is a big challenge for me. Right now...this one is baffling me. I can play the rhythm ok, but when he does all the little arpeggio and embellishments...I totally lose any sense of rhythm...can't get close to what he is doing. |
russ59dd User ID: 5045374 United States 05/10/2021 02:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OK... how about a backing track? or a pocket metronome with the click or strobe action? also, there is a technique that classical and fingerstyle guitarists use of keeping time OR accenting on the soundboard(?)next to the pickguard (maybe one hit per measure) or where your hear an accented drum hit also being a drummer I like this, I just cant use a pick when I do it...so I keep my fingernails a little longer on my picking hand also … you don't want long fingernails on your fret hand! |
