As a race of spiritless automata and animals, caucasians could never understand the range of emotions that the character was going through, and that Michael B. Jordan displayed.
Everything was perfect imo. Down to the playful relationship he maintained with his female commanding officer, as well as the way she behaved. Even though they were friends, she wouldn't sacrifice HER POSITION just for him, and rightly looked at his mental and emotional state and made a judgment call inspite of the suffering he was going through.
