Anonymous Coward User ID: 4765715 United States 05/11/2021 12:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Are kidding me?? 4000 miles of manually controlled lineups? Pump starting, prevent deadheading, over pressuring, air locks, sequential starts; let’s not even talk about verification before starts. That is a manpower nightmare and completely unreasonable on a sustainable scale. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 2008644 United States 05/11/2021 12:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Electricity maybe a problem before long, to keep up with any problems in the electric lines people have to drive trucks and a lot of utility companies don't use electric vehicles, they use gas. Your food also comes in gas driven trucks. UPS doesn't have all electric vehicles. There is a lot more than a few things that need gas, even the trackers in the fields growing food. It’s PLANTING TIME for farms |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79805552 Why would a cyber attack have so much influence over a pipeline to keep it down for long time. Why can't they go in fix quickly If you computer gets infected with a virus, are you usually able to just go in and fix it “quickly?” We’re talking about state-financed, weaponized ransomware. That shit ain’t nuthin to fuck with yo |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79805552 Why would a cyber attack have so much influence over a pipeline to keep it down for long time. Why can't they go in fix quickly You ask too many questions! There's literally nothing that controls a pipeline that can be shut down by ransomeware. You are talking about RF and RS-232 serial communications controlled over Unix command line. Any connections of these to a window based system would be through a virtual machine instance. In 2021 most of these will have cellular redundancy so someone can SSH in to make changes. So tell me why a windows based Ransomeware brings down an entire pipeline? My thoughts-- some old lady in billing clicked a bad link and it shut down an peripheral network that has nothing to do with the pipeline itself. For precautions it was shut down, and they have failed to be able to turn it back on where its stable. If thats the case its not ransomeware.. but whoever designed the network in the first place. I’m assuming they’re doing it as a precaution until they understand the extent of the damage. There may also be internal guidelines and procedures they’re following. It’s hard to tell at the monent. |

The Starbuckian User ID: 70895359 United States 05/11/2021 01:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ... Quoting: Catnip Until the utilities are shut off. Then you're up that famous creek with the gas cars. And it's predicted that the utilities will be shut off sooner rather than later. Utilities are not going to be shut down. Catnip = chicken little In my neck of the woods, the coal trains run on diesel. But you act as if the pipeline will never be operational again? They are already in process of bringing back up and in a few days, will be largely complete. Death and destruction are the only things you find pleasure in. That is sad, very sad. I doubt that they paid the ransom. They're probably going with replacement of the hardware that runs the system. And even if they did pay the ransom, what guarantee do they have that it wouldn't happen again next month? Meaning I think that whoever did this anticipated what they're doing now to get the pipeline up and running again. It makes me wonder if this shutdown had something to do with the incicent of the US confiscating the fuel tankers headed for Venezuela, and because Juan Guaido didn't get to be installed as president. “Queen Sarah, save us from the Black Dog King!” - from the play, Dissocia [link to tasaonline.org.au (secure)] "Never be anyone's French poodle." - Mr Hamilton |
