LoL dude, you can't even take a grizzly down with a handgun, what do you think it would be like to take down Big Foot? And I imagine that he can cover more ground, faster.

You'd be better off hitting him with bear spray.

A 10mm handgun can stop a grizzly, not optimum though but it can.

I remember the time I took the tenderfoots out on their first overnighter. They’ve standing there saying, “Scoutmaster, we’re really afraid to to into the dark scary woods...” I replied, “You’re afraid? Think how I’m gonna feel when I walk back out alone!”

10mm with hot modern loads are the new rage in Alaska after this story was published. Definitely not as powerful as 44 and above calibers but it can get the job done with full power loads and solid bullets.

There is literally nothing scary about Skull Valley Utah. I've camped there many times and go out shooting often. One, not very smart to camp alone as a woman. Just sayin. My guess is coyotoes or mountain lion. I've had a mountain lion brush my tent in the middle of the night, scary as hell. Also, if she had food in her pack, then yes, animals will rip stuff apart to find the food. most likely. There are some drunk Aholes usually, so have to be careful of that. There is a small reservation, but they don't bother people.

I think I would take the 10 mil. A .44 magnum packs more punch but you're limited to 6 rounds. A glock 10 mil (glock 20) is 15+1. On the other hand many do not like carrying a racked glock (no safety) and a revolver is safe to carry and ready to shoot.

I say get used to the glock.

Really? and how many bear encounters have you personally had. And this reply was for any animal, not just bear. No way am I going to stand there and be lunch. A face (not skull or head)shot with a hollow point bullet could blind a bear, could disorient him and the gut shot will cause internal bleeding and you could hit the spleen orlung. Its hear is protected by the breast bone and a shot will do nothing...and a good kick (shot) in the groin will stop most men in their tracks.
Yes, run. Rolling over and playing dead is only ok if you know for sure he just had lunch, otherwise he will grab your head or neck and chomp while you lay there dying and wishing you had run, cause maybe your car is only ten ft. away, and if shot x3, he wont run for long.
When we were picking berries with black bear nearby, as little kids, we carried a stout stick to bop them on their sensitive nose and our dad would be there to shoot if we didnt move safely away.Try that, it works bettery than spray.
