“...initiated the restart of pipeline operations”

I just put on my shoes in anticipation of driving to the bank a little later this evening.

Did I just initiate the restart of my car engine?

If so, it is going to be quite some time before that engine actually restarts.

My take: a cartel exists to coordinate limiting supply to increase prices. It was a basic cartel action to limit gas supply to increase gas prices.

And despite numerous assurances that it was "hackers" nobody was fooled and everyone blamed Biden and so they are backing off and restarting it up asap.

So, doom off?
 Quoting: Fortunabeargirl

Maybe not entirely. I'm trying to read thru the small print.

Colonial is expecting roughly twice as much delivery capacity as they were able to provide after the shut off, and I'm guessing most will be manual (i.e. trucking it in, not the actual pipeline)

"Since our pipeline system was taken offline, working with our shippers, Colonial has delivered approximately 967,000 barrels (~41 million gallons) to various delivery points along our system. This includes delivery into the following markets: Atlanta, Ga., Belton and Spartanburg, S.C., Charlotte and Greensboro, N.C., Baltimore, Md. and Woodbury and Linden N.J.

Additionally, in preparation for our system restart, we have taken delivery of an additional 2 million barrels (~84 million gallons) from refineries for deployment upon restart."

They site lifted restrictions on hours driven by truckers in some states, but not necessarily weight restrictions.

As well as limited lifting of restrictions on shipping 'winter' gas.

So...lessened doom, good optics, but I'd wait at least a week before "doom off"

Cheers

Colonial Pipeline To Restarts Operations: CEO

Update: Wednesday, May 12, 5:11 p.m.

Colonial Pipeline initiated the restart of pipeline operations today at approximately 5 p.m. ET.

Following this restart, it will take several days for the product delivery supply chain to return to normal. Some markets served by Colonial Pipeline may experience, or continue to experience, intermittent service interruptions during the start-up period. Colonial will move as much gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel as is safely possible and will continue to do so until markets return to normal.
