Every city and town that's done the virtue-signalling catch/spay/neuter/release program has ended up with a rat and mice problem.

I tried to inform the people in my city (a harbour town) about this consequence before they instituted the program several years ago, but it fell on deaf ears. Now we have rats and mice everywhere, including taking up residence in houses and apartment/condo buildings, hospital and university buildings, and hotel and office buildings.

Spayed and neutered cats have zero interest in chasing rats and mice. Spaying and neutering reduces their hormone level to nearly zero (to the level of a kitten), taking with it the kill instinct. They play with their prey rather than kill it. Losing their kill instincts and relying on hand-outs for food (like kittens do) also makes them vulnerable to predators.

A thousand feral cats (if they're genuinely feral, not spayed and neutered) won't put much of a dent in Chicago's rat problem.

Nearly every time humans intervene with their virtue-signalling, short-sighted "solutions", they make things worse on all counts, but I can guarantee you that someone somewhere made money from it.

Very few government policies are based on wisdom. Nearly all are profit-driven for the benefit of government insiders and their lobbyists.

I know there's a general hate-on for Chicago on this forum, but I traveled through there several times by train on my way to somewhere else, and I was always treated well. Once I got lost trying to navigate the local train lines, and a woman very kindly took hold of my heavy luggage, guided me to the street, and hailed me a taxi. I tried to pay her for her service, but she refused to take the money. The taxi driver was an immigrant from Africa. He was listening to a Christian sermon on the car radio. These were the kind of people I encountered in Chicago. I think there is still some good in that town. I think there are still some Godly people everywhere, just not many. We need to be grateful for the few there are.
