near where I live, an unused pool has been taken over by a mallard duck pair.

Get a new salt cell...or have the existing one cleaned, check your. Keep your filter clean. Keep your water as balanced as you can.

Use UV disinfect lights let's see them ban that

Use the pool as a septic tank/thief disposal area.

I noticed our town water doesn't smell of chlorine anymore. That's a Damn great thing if the chlorine is out.

Same here on the pool supplies. A pool is a water source, they don't want us to have it. That's what I'm thinking. Also, there is a dog/cat food shortage here.

I have noticed over and above the regular sales of it. That people are stocking up on bleach.

Not just a normal purchase of a jug here or there but buying 6 to 8 large jugs at a time

Texas was hit hard from the freeze. Parts for repairs are scarce. If your pool is still down with no filtration, you should have already ordered Whole Goods if you wanted to be up and running soon. Manufacturers are producing WG over parts....

If you smell chlorine in tap water, it usually indicates an underfed condition. The waterplant didn't add enough chlorine to achieve break point chlorination which basically oxidizes dissolved metals first then all organic matter. Under chlorination cause chloramine compounds, usually around 10 testable but 4 are cancer causing, and it is these compounds you are smelling.

After you have reached the point that every combined chlorine compound (chloramines) is oxidized, you have free chlorine available in the water. This will continue to build and there are legal limits to how much free chlorine is allowed in drinking water. If you are smelling chlorine is water with free chlorine, it is grossly overfed to an almost poison level.

Small water systems use a free chlorine based program. Larger systems add ammonia to the drinking water and re-create a chloramine compound that is less effective a disinfectant than free chlorine, but lasts much longer within the system.
