Look, if it were pretend to pray I would have noticed. First of all that one line is in a different tense than the rest of the song. I would have noticed. Second, pretend to pray is very subversive and anti religious. I would have noticed. Thirdly I clearly heard them sing "pretend to pray" even over my own loud singing. So I would have heard it the hundred times I wasnt singing over it.

The song was written by John Phillips. His daughter, teen sit-com star Mackenzie Phillips has claimed that he raped her in 1979, when she was 19.
