Anonymous Coward User ID: 78049307 06/07/2021 11:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Trump says a lot of crap. I don't really care. El Salvador wants to make it legal tender. I don't see how it can be legal tender unless it stays much more stable for a longer period of time. 25% swings up or down on a regular basis and sometimes just based on a tweet don't exactly make a stable store of value in my book. Let's just say for example today I can buy 10 gallons of gas for my truck for x amount of BTC, but tomorrow I may only get 7.5? That seems like economic chaos. To me, it's a highly volatile speculative investment, nothing more. Lots of people have made tons of money with it, lots of people have lost tons of money with it. I'm not an expert on economics though. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1397910 Blockchain technologies are what are fundamentally “valuable.” They have many applications and will play an important part in securing digital banking and other transactions in the future. BTC is not like any other good or service, because it intrinsically does not offer or hold any value. At the end of the day, the 1's and 0's specially encrypted are no more value than the paper that money is printed on, and actually less because the paper can be used in a fire to cook food or warm up in a SHTF scenario. BTC is traded much like a commodity, but without any underlying "thing" that actually has value, other than the technology of blockchain, which is akin to the features on a paper bill that make it more difficult to counterfeit (or hack, in BTC's case). It's basically just another form of money (a device which all parties in a transaction agree represents the value of some other good or service, as an easier way of transferring value between people or organizations than the barter system), and as such it can be manipulated the same as money. Does it make a difference if it is the Fed doing the manipulating, or some non-governmental group? Gold has intrinsic value, as does silver and many other intruments used as money. BTC is too volatile to use as a standard currency. Who would want to get paid with something that may lose 1/3 of its value overnight? |

Why the fuck should government have any say in the exchange of value among private citizens?
