Re: FSC Cigarettes
You've all been misinformed. Its the same substance thats in carpet glue. The glue they use to adhere carpet to concrete is fire resistant and it seems that's the only thing the "government" could figure out what to do to make the cigarette go out... but it doesn't work. The cherry falls off and they only go out if you're holding it. If you drop it, it will start a fire.

Re: FSC Cigarettes
It makes no difference to me what the chemical is in the new FSC cigarettes. I know that it is having a seriously negative impact on my health. I believe that in a few years we will all be hearing about the massive number of smokers dying from whatever this chemical is while the government tries to deny that the health problems have anything to do with the FSC designation.

I just found a much better alternative. Make your own! There are cigarette tubes with filters, simple and inexpensive machines to inject the tobacco into the tubes, and a great variety of tobacco on the market. I went to a local tobacco store and bought some tobacco and some tubes and a $10 hand injector. Amazing. I've been smoking Parliament for 30 years and these are BETTER! Far fewer chemicals and a better taste. All for about $12 per carton. There are endless varieties of full-flavored and light tobaccos and tubes on the market to satisfy any taste. There is no reason NOT to make your own.

Why are we supporting these ridiculous tobacco companies and the government who is trying to take away all smokers' rights when we could just make our own? What happened to the Land of the Free anyway?

Search Roll Your Own Magazine and you will find a wealth of information!
 Quoting: Patti 402772

Zig-Zag is my favorite for tube cigs.

A high quality hand cranker seems to last longer over the long haul, too.

When the tax per carton went up by $10 (about $30 ago now, at least), I made the switch. Better taste, and saved quite a bit of $$.

In Illinois, you legally must pay the cigarette taxes on smokes you buy over the internet. Since that scheme didn't work out so well, there have been recent counter-measures with Credit Card Companies no longer supporting the sales with their cards.

Hi

I am not sure what saltpeter is, can you explain or give me website for more into.

It's stuff they give you in boot camp so you don't look longingly at someone else in the shower.

Re: FSC Cigarettes
If you take a pre-FSC smoke and look at it under a black light you'll notice evidence of a liquid on the paper that has dried. (looks kinda like a piss stain) this is from an accelerant (sp) Like a previous post said, you could light one put it down and it would burn till gone, a fire needs air, without drawing air through cig it should go out. Old smokes didn't....

Maybe they didn't wanna spray 10% ethanol on smokes lol.

PS new legislation want to do away with all flavorings in cigs. (idea being that they taste too good and encourage youth smoking) this will include the flavor called "menthol." (this is according to my RJR Rep)

PS Camel changed their blend, like Coke did, no customer loyalty. Obviously lower quality, no mega-corp is going to really upgrade a product without raising the price. Considering the predatory way RJR treats its retailers I would urge smokers to boycott RJR brands. CAMEL, Pall Mall, Winston, Kool, GPC.

Re: FSC Cigarettes
lol it's just one more chemical amoung MANY in the mainstream brands.

smoke Natural cigs or roll your own. Even then you will get some pestcides..but not any of the numerous other junks.

the only fully chem free are the organics from American spirit and a couple of other more obscure brands

38 states will have the law by Jan. 1, 2010.

17 states currently have the FSC law.

6 more states will have it by this coming Jan. 1 2009!

see below for complete list of states that have the law or will have the law:

The government really wants us to quit with all they do to change the way cigarettes are made.

Once 2010 hits we may all have to start rolling our own.

Re: FSC Cigarettes
I roll my own.

I bought a Top-O-Matic machine for $39.99.

For tobacco I use Harvest Dream Long Cut. Easier on the cigarette machine than powder blends. Cost for one bag that makes 7 packs of 100's is $6.19.

200 Gambler tubes cost $2.79. That's enough for 10 packs.

So for my first 7 packs it cost me roughly $49 with enough tubes left over for 3 packs. It would have cost me roughly the same to buy a carton of cigarettes in Maine.

It takes about a carton of cigarettes before you have your money back on the rolling machine, which is a damn good deal.

Now that the rolling machine has paid for itself i pay $8.98 for 7 packs of 100's or roughly $1.25 a pack.

I buy 4 6 oz packs of tobacco and 3 boxes of tubes at time.

And believe it or not I can roll a pack in around 3 minutes..give or take for distractions.

Re: FSC Cigarettes
No special talent needed to roll your own with a good machine, just move the tobacco into the slot (no need to overload it and make for a hard crank with the handle) and put the tube on the nipple and move the hand crank about 160 degrees and you have a cigarette.

When I have decided to make a tight packed cigarette I can make a cigarette that will last over 15 minutes, but it is kind of hard to get a good hit off it. You don't want to overload the tobacco slot as this will cause a hard crank to make the cigarette which I don't feel is a good idea if you want the machine to last for a while. I have heard of the machines lasting for 6-7 years. They are a great money saver.

Re: FSC Cigarettes
Thanks OP for bringing this up. The FSC make me ill. I never cough with regular cigs, but when the FSC came out I could barely stop coughing from the minute I woke up in the morning and throughout the entire day. I finally travelled out of state to buy some normal cigs, and the very next day I was coughing less. A few weeks later, with normal cigs, I wasn't coughing at all.

I agree with all the other posters that what we really need to do, for numerous reasons, is to roll our own. I haven't gotten around to trying it yet, but I expect I will in order to avoid these awful FSC cigs. Still, I'm outraged that various States are passing these FSC laws without public notice or comment and without investigation into the health effects of whatever chemicals they're using. FSCs make you feel very badly physically, and very quickly at that. It totally pisses me off that I'm forced into manufacturing my own cigarettes ( a LEGAL product), just to avoid this attempted murder by the same State that profits so much off smoker's backs.

We should figure out who lobbies all these state legislatures to pass FSC laws. We need to track these people down and hold them accountable.

Re: FSC Cigarettes
Once you see how easy it is to roll your own you wont be bitter at all. It takes less time to roll a pack then it takes to go to a store that is 3 miles away.

No more running out of cigarettes at inconvenient times.

I wonder now why it took me so long to get my own rolling machine. I should have made the move a decade ago..or more.
