Honest opinion, I think Stewart is hilarious, smart and has morals.

Based on zero inside info I think he left the daily show because he was getting too much guidance on what he could and could not say. I thought it at the time, and still believe it now.

When Barry was in office, he criticized him relentlessly. He did a lot of segments about how Barry screwed up the VA, fast and furious, Lois Lerner, etc.

I would bet a lot of money that Stewart was offered the gig that Colbert ended up taking, but he knew that big paycheck was buying him as a mouthpiece only. Read the state sponsored script and nothing else.

So what. They all have writers, and most of those writers couldn't get in front of a camera and be entertaining. Stewart was also part of the writing process. The daily show was hilarious when Stewart was on, and he was a big part of it.

Just look at Trevor Noah. He has a team of writers as well, and he isn't even remotely funny. It isn't just that I disagree with his (state sponsored) takes, he just isn't funny or entertaining.

Funny is funny, I don't care if someone is making fun of my sacred cow, I can respect funny.

I think Colbert is actually a funny guy, and his schtick on "the report" was well done. I never thought he was full blown left at the time, because he would make fun of both sides as well.
