Simple, as it should be but with a solid message. The basic idea is about being yourself, not settling, we all have things we like and should pursue them; no matter what others say, etc. Might sound generic, but I don't think so - not the way I have in mind. That aside; there's quite a little crew of talented writers/creative minds congregating here... Haven't posted this anywhere for quite a while now, so here it is again. (not part of a planned childrens story, altho...) Mother bird felt it was time; So three birds were helped out of the nest. The birds all went down in free fall, They squawked and spun around out of control. Then one bird began to instinctively flap, Then another, then another, Still the ground approached rapidly. Mother bird sat in the nest, not even watching the falling birds. Father bird flew down behind them, screaming "Fly you fools! FLY!" One bird heard him from his right ear, This bird struggled and barely slowed his descent. His vision became red as blood, and he raged, "Why Mother? I hate you for doing this!" One bird heard him from his left ear, This bird struggled but felt the wind beneath his wings, His vision had been red, but lifting slightly, it softened to pink. "Oh Mother, I love you! I'm coming back Mother!" The third bird heard him so loudly he couldn't focus, His brothers either side screaming confused him even further, He couldn't think, he couldn't understand anything anymore, He could see the ground approaching, and screamed in defiance, All of his senses, his entire being were overloaded - except his Will. This third bird flapped so hard he forgot he was doing it, He flew so hard and straight up, that his vision became black. In his blacked out state, seeing nothing, he stopped. For a single moment, he didn't move in any direction or see anything. As his vision restored he saw only pure white around him, Then the white swirled, he saw it was clouds and fell through. Then he saw the nest, he saw his brothers, he saw, everything else; All the things that he never knew about, an unexplored infinity of possibilities. This bird flapped, not too hard, not too slow, Not only his left wing, not only his right, This new bird flew calmly, with majesty, as great eagles do. Both Serpents are green with glowing red eyes. One has it's fangs bared. There is a full moon in the sky with exactly 6 stars around the moon in a half circle. The moon is above the tree. Absolutely understandable, but also don't forget everyone uses help. Publishing houses do tons of work to get a book to sell. Saying you want to do it on your own is great, and it only makes me respect you more. Just don't be afraid to ask for some help. I can give you some pointers to get your book as a best seller, and it doesn't necessarily involve changing your work. Just how you market it. Same goes for everyone else, btw. I had to process my emotions, and it isn't quite right but it's pretty solid. I didn't finish cause my wife got annoyed, and I uh... had to stop They had finally come. Davers had spent his entire life preparing for this moment. In many ways, he couldn't complain; it had been a far longer life than many would have expected. But there had been a price to go with that life, and it was time for him to pay the bill. The knott twisted his stomach like a sadist at carnival, threatening to pull his insides out of his throat. He took a long calming breath. It was true that he was about to die, but it would be a good death. He looked around the empty space around, the cool dark interior had been designed to help him clear his mind of distractions; but now it felt as suffocating as a tomb. "Farsel, tell me how many do you see?" His voice was surprisingly calm, and the dark, soft ridges did their job and devoured his words. Returning only nothing. "It looks bad." Was Farsel's terse reply. "Everything is ready?" "Yes it is. The outer traps have already destroyed a large number of their ships." Farsels voice faltered slightly on the word 'ship', because it was so hard to be certain what exactly they were. "And I am bringing the outer sentry's online with full kill authorization." Farsel continued calmly, "The main task force is also preppared and reasy to intercept. Would you have nay other orders?" "What is the status of the builders?" Davers rubbed his forehead as a stab of pain shot through it. "They were already on a solid exit path, and I don't see any chance of enemy forces being able engage them." "Good then bring up everything, and get them all authorization to kill. Maintain structure and control, let's not let them rush out of the gate. Keep them on a short leash." "Very good. I have to remind you that it is now time for you to eat." Inside that dark coffin, Davers began to eat, comfortably safe at the heart of a monstrous engine of destruction. All around it, was once a system that had boasted five planets, but now KR-1331A was just a single star with a lone orbiting companion. Davers system. He had decided that he hated the term KR-1331A, it was about as warm and meaningful as a lump of steel. So he just named it after himself, it didn't matter to anyone. The system had been chosen, because the Seers had guaranteed this system would never support life. Not in a trillion years. So it was deemed acceptable to be used as fodder for the war. Davers had been the one given the job of staying behind. It was strange how the departure of the builders, a family of five, only made Davers feel even more like he was trapped. He had never actually seen any of them in person. They had never entered the cool chamber that Davers had affectionately called his 'egg'. They had been his only companions for almost four thousand years, while they slowly ate the sytems natural planets and used them to entomb him. I've never been terribly good (or wanted to be) and self promotion. I absolutely detest trying to 'get people interested' or 'build a profile' etc. I tend to just do stuff and poeople either react or not, doesn't really work too well when there's no exposure of said work though! I have thought that I'd go the 'self publish' route, as in, there's a few companies that do the printing and the author retains all profit. Haven't looked too deeply in to it.
