Most people who work those kinds of spells can only summon the emotion by fixating on one person (the strong desire) and they tend to focus on the lack of that person. You see the problem? That's not even including the whole free will thing. Yeah, emotion matching intent being core. Desire is the lack thereof, opposite to an attracting, gathering, snowball effect. How to cause love to blossom when you've not experience what love with that person is like? You can't, at best you can bring about the emotion of previous love and apply to that person - which is of course affecting free will and near to programming someone with your idea of what they should be. The old "you don't love me, you love the idea of me in your head". As you said, often it's an absence and longing that is focused on emotionally so that's exactly was is strengthened. There is also a danger which I rarely hear people discuss about this type of spellwork. When you focus an intent on someone there is a chance of what we call spiritual binding. You can possibly energetically bind yourself to that person when you interfere with their energy and free will. This is what usually causes love spells and other black magick workings to backfire if not done very carefully. There is a mingling effect. If that love spell fails, you can still find yourself 'stuck' with that person for a very, very long time. Trust me it's not as fun as it sounds. Certainly, you've mentioned once or twice briefly. Beyond simply 'love spells', there are those that do this intentionally some with nefarious plans, some think they're helping, others are fools, others still are deceived in to an action to be used by that first group of nefarious fucktards. When I teach, one of the main things I stress is to wait until you've got a year or more of reading under your belt before you attempt any spellwork to avoid exactly what you posted about.
