Learn to code!!
I run into folks and when having a conversation sometimes there’s an opportunity to ask if they want to learn to code. The answer is always the same, no way.

I think to myself man that’s a real shame. So many doors open up just by simply learning to code for the web. You don’t even have to be any good at it.

An hour here and an hour there self teaching and you develop a skill that raises your confidence, makes your worth go way up and gives you a new perspective on everything.

It’s refreshing to have a new perspective when you don’t even realize that you’re in a rut.

I agree that there are challenges with outsourcing and having to keep up with new stuff.

It does pay really well and when the economy is in the tank you never need to worry about where your next employer is coming from. Your always in demand.

If you get somewhat good and know a specific industry then the next move is CEO.

To my point so far the response has been a solid no. I just don’t get it, have folks lost that hunger to learn and basically do what they are doing anyway which is spending time behind the keyboard

It’s up to the individual to decide what direction they want to go. There are people that have been in a specific industry for years and know insider trade secrets.

If those folks began down the path of learning to code they will realize hey I don’t have to work for the man. I can use this to build a business of my own

If you want to get a little ahead of the curve, find an up and coming sector.

Perhaps look into smart contract development. That skill will be in large demand in the next few years.

I would suggest the cardano ecosystem.

Re: Learn to code!!
Coding is very rewarding. It taps my creativity and logic at the same time. I love it!

But it's really not for everyone.

Everyone I know who has an interest in programming never actually invests the time needed to be good at it.

Or, they simply lack the creativity needed to keep themselves motivated, so they just follow a couple of tutorials and build a todo list or calculator and that's it.

I would pump the breaks on going to big to quick. Maybe start smaller like a website were you can write something positive about a coworker or friend. Give them kudos that they can link to from social media or wherever.

Of course, one must start with first principles.

UI is just one component of modern frameworks. And that layer has been greatly commoditized.

But the learning can be targeted toward the skills needed for new frameworks and the investment may provide greater returns.

This is what was meant by “learn to learn”.

Now if coding <pick your bits and bytes> is for personal enjoyment. Have at it.

A person who can learn how to learn will not go hungry.

Being able to code is not an hour here or hour there. I have been doing it since 2003. You constantly are learning and reading up on things. It is a great skill to have though, especially if you like working by yourself and from home. Due to that being my path, I was able to have my kids with me while I worked. Plus I am always around for them.

My hours get mucked up because I admin servers and websites. Yesterday I got to bed at 10am because I was upgrading someones forum to new software and importing all the data to it. You are always on call.

For the older people, one of my friends is in his late 70's, he is half blind and he codes. He is one of the best coders I know and fortune 500 companies will hire him for projects. So you are never to old to learn. You might find it fun.

So programming is basically just learn a few small things then each language has slightly different ways of executing the code and learning a few syntax rules about the language you picked.
