During the early hours of Monday, June 13, two solar spacecrafts captured a magnificent three-hour-long solar flare on tape. This led to the extreme ultraviolet radiation released from the Sun ionising the top of our planet’s atmosphere.
This M-class storm was strong enough to temporarily mess with the radio signals down here on Earth, and caused radio blackouts in Japan and the South Asia-Pacific regions.

India announced that it has detected a CME and that a glancing impact on Earth is expected on June 15, with further geomagnetic disturbances on the cards in the coming days.

Widespread blackouts in Columbus, Ohio. Heat index of 106 yesterday, 103 today. Outages lasted 14-18 hours in some areas.
Grocery stores lost meat and frozen/refrigerated foods all over the city. The entire Midwest grid is strained from heat combined with some storm damage a few days ago and we’re looking at rolling blackouts for awhile. We lost power yesterday for 14 hours yesterday, power was restored at 5am, then was back out by 10am.
Never seen anything like it in the Midwest in my life.
Saw a couple of small stores broken into with bricks through the windows.

I went through the power outage from Quebec power in ‘89. It was longer than 9 hours for some of us in rural locations. But very cool to see community help involvement from everywhere.

Jacksonville heat was the worst I can remember and I am 53 years old and my mom's and my AC is out! We can't afford to get our AC fixed because of inflation and the prices of freon! The Gothenburg Flip is so short and changes so rapidly that it can only be recorded in detailed analyses of sediments with a high sedimentation rate.

The cores were taken 160 km apart and represent both marine and lacustrine environments. The analysis of the BZK0402 core obtained from the Paleo-Danyang Lake in eastern China enabled the identification of the Gothenburg geomagnetic excursion at a depth of 6.5–7.2 m with an age of 12,494–13,081 yr BP.
Comparisons between cave stalagmite records and the polarities of the lacustrine sediments also indicate that the timing of the Gothenburg geomagnetic excursion is consistent with an abrupt decrease in temperature since the last deglaciation although the meaning of this correlation requires further research.

This connection between geomagnetic, cosmogenic and climate changes has been the focus of recent research (Bakhmutov, 2006; Valet et al., 2014, 2019) that identified synchronous variations in magnetic and cosmogenic records within three Indian Ocean cores (Valet et al., 2019).

The late Pleistocene-Holocene deposits are studied in 12 piston-core sections sampled at the continental slope and in the deep part of the Black Sea within the Adler-Tuapse test area. In four of these sections, the Neoeuxinian beds revealed paleomagnetic anomalies confined to the base of the hydrotroilite member and presumably induced by the Gothenburg excursion. Correlation with available data on the western region of the Black Sea, where the Gothenburg excursion was first identified, substantiate synchronism of hydrotroilite deposits in eastern and western areas of the sea.
