Can anyone tell me of this is unprecedented?? I don’t know how common these EQ storms are. Quoting: Aware & Watching you mus5 be new to CA. Lived here all my life. But I’m NORCAL. I’m not in SoCal. NorCal doesn’t get this many and certainly not this many all at once! This is crazy for NorCal. NorCal gets plenty of quakes. there are lots of faults and northern most part of CA sits on a subduction zone. |

Can anyone tell me of this is unprecedented?? I don’t know how common these EQ storms are. Quoting: Aware & Watching In any large earthquake, you are going to get a large aftershock sequence. That is what this is—aftershocks, not an earthquake swarm. Usually hundreds, even thousands of aftershocks can occur (most too small to be felt by humans). For a 6.0 earthquake, you are going to get a bunch in the 3 and 4s (which is happening) and likely to get at least 1 aftershock in the 5.0 range. Actually, you are better off getting a healthy aftershock sequence..if you get a big shock, like a 6 or 7 and no aftershocks, might be more likely to be a pre-shock to a bigger quake (like the 7 that happened before the 9 near Japan in 2010). That said, there is still a 6 percent chance this was a foreshock to a bigger quake. |

Hoping it’s just Cali being Cali. We do get a good size quake in NorCal every now and then. Hoping that’s all this is. But all of these after/shocks do seem unusual for us. They are not the least unusual for a 6.0.... If you had no aftershocks i would worry more as it would mean the 6.0 was a foreshock. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79032693 United States 07/09/2021 01:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I’m close to these quakes... not normal at all. The first one was registered as 6.8 and quickly taken down to 5.9. Also, there were three quakes that hit at once....Stockton, Markleeville, and mono lake. They removed the two off very quickly too. Markleeville has natural hot springs. Wonder what is bubbling up there. Also mono lake is near an old super volcano. Something doesn’t seem right...there are lots of 4.5, 4.4 and 1.2, 1.7. This last one rocked the house good. 4.5 and 4.0. The expert also said we may have a bigger one coming. How much energy is stored up Still after all these quakes? |

Can anyone tell me of this is unprecedented?? I don’t know how common these EQ storms are. Quoting: Aware & Watching This is 100% completely normal. It's just been a while since you've been in a large 6.0 magnitude quake. Aftershocks in the 4s and even 5s are normal. If you start getting a progressive increase that can be a symptom of a foreshock. If you look at 7mag. earthquakes they will get 6.5 aftershocks. The 7.1 quake in Ridgecrest had very large aftershocks for weeks. thousands and thousands of quakes stacked up. If you look at the quake map there is still a little movement in Ridgecrest that wasn't there before after all this time: [link to scedc.caltech.edu (secure)] Watch Dutchsinse for the best Earthquake updates: [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] |

Aware & Watching (OP) User ID: 78359553 United States 07/09/2021 01:52 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When the 6.0 hit at 3:49pm. I was sitting in our van in the parking lot at Lowe’s in Folsom. I was chatting with my mom on the phone, waiting for my husband to find what he needed at Lows. All of a sudden I felt the van shaking up and down. It felt as if someone had jumped up on the back bumper of the van and began jumping up and down on it. I actually thought someone who knew us saw the van with me sitting inside and was playing a joke on me. But when I turned around in my seat, I saw no one. And that’s when I knew we were having an earth quake! It lasted for a good 10-15 seconds. Faith in Him. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 80584356 United States 07/09/2021 01:52 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "The so-called precursor is often a swarm of small earthquakes, increasing amounts of radon in local water, unusual behavior of animals, increasing size of magnitudes in moderate size events, or a moderate-magnitude event rare enough to suggest that it might be a foreshock" This could indeed be BAD. Especially seeing as how wide spread they are. Guess we will see.. |
