Plenty of vids on living and building own cabins on you tube.

Not to mention there are yurts and other thing you can build.

I am doing a trampoline frame shelter , like a Quonset hut…

I would say yes…

Not for long, $100k is like 1000 shares of ExxonMobil and some walking around money.

Look up homesteading famil, raise bees sell honey, my papa used to sell strawberries and let people come pick and made a lot doing that. He was a minister too, but a lot of income from the garden and he sold cattle. Canned and froze a lot of vegetables and fruit

Wait until there is no more gasoline

Wait until the 5G turns on for Real ?!

There is no escaping. WE ALL had our chances ( mine included) to leave. But WE chose money or comfort instead.

Your bed has been made already.

Tuck yourself in

Buying an off Grid property is actually the easy part.

It takes a lot of skill, hard work, intelligence, planning, and having a lot of like minded friends and people in your community, and family to be able to live off grid.

I'm fortunate enough to have a husband , 3 sisters, parents, grandparents and other family, and many friends who are like me and have what it takes. So is my husband's family.

In fact my parents taught me a lot of what it takes.
I've always been a country and small town girl
I never did like big cities.

We're definitely raising our kids to be the same way.

If you have what it takes, though, it is well worth it.

The freedom, privacy and lack of non-whites makes it especially worth it.

Btw I know my flag says UK but I'm actually in the US.

Look at all these people who have never tried surviving!

If you don't think $100k could get you enough to survive for 10 years, you are a fool.

Always filtering through our own experiences and bias, with a resounding "no." Limited by our societal norms and modern human experience. Always reaching higher for that extra dollar, nearly touching the sun in our greed.

You can do it. You ABSOLUTELY can do it!

Like I said, you may not have societal wealth, but what you will have will allow you to SURVIVE!

These people saying "buy silver!" "Invest in companies" and such are in for a rude awakening.

Invest in yourself, your wisdom, your family... Fuck the collapsing current and impending new world order society.

There was a video that used to be posted a lot here. Some former AJ fan who bought into the idea of prepping and even got scammed into buying some of the prepper stuff AJ was selling. At the end of the day, he said the prepper life was too much working, having to get up at 4 or 5 in the morning to feed the chickens and do this and that, was also an expensive task and not worth it. People do this, not only for survival, but for the hope of absolute freedom, but he says most of your freedom is exerted and used up in this way of living. very little time for yourself, very little time to live life.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78436748

I'm about as much of a country boy as one can be. Born and raised in the country. Have lived out in the countryside my whole life. Love nature. Love the great outdoors. Love wide open spaces. Love hunting. Love camping. Very skilled with firearms. You couldn't pay me to live in the city. Still living off the grid is stupid. You couldn't pay me to live off the grid. It's just as stupid as living in the city. I'll take my rural on the grid life anyway over off the grid or city life.
I bet about all the people on here claiming to live off the grid are full of shit and LARPers.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80566128

99% of GLPers are LARPers period.
You got the LARPers claiming to live off the grid.
You got the LARPers claiming to be really hot women-usually with blonde hair and blue eyes and big tits- when in reality they almost certainly are 350 lb. landwhales that live in trailer parks.
Either that or done obese acne infested virgin make living in his mom's basement pretending to be a hot woman.
Then you got the LARPers that claim to own several homes and run several businesses and gave really hot wives
When on fact they live on welfare never got laid in their live and live in their mom's basement.
GLP might as well as stand for Godlike LARPERS.

3 acres in Appalachia with building site and utilities at road - 30k unrestricted/no HOA (settle for no utilities at road to avoid HOA if you must)

Concrete pad - varies

Cheap trailer RV - 10k

Solar - 5-10k depends on needs

Water can be the issue.

Grow food

Get chickens and a dog.

Stack .22LR and Rifle caliber of your choice

It is.
I know people who tried living off grid.
They all said it sucked balls and moved back on grid in 2 months or less.
Fortunately they either kept or rented out their on grid homes and didn't sell them.

OP, trust me if you sell your home and move off grid you will regret if you live to regret it

I could probably walk away with at least that if I sell my house in this bubble. I’m a little nervous about all that is happening and being in a suburb might be bad.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78841516

Absolutely!! But you’ll have to make some sacrifices, which means either buying land deep in the sticks, like South Dakota or Idaho, or move to a country in Latin America (I take up Colombia a lot here).

There’s still cheap good land to be had in Idaho but my biggest problem there is the shortened growing season. There’s at least 6 to 8 months where almost nothing grows.

What I like about South America is that you can get crazy cheap land up in the Andres mountains and the temperatures are between 75F and 50F 365 days per year. No drought problems. Very libertarian lifestyle. Rich soil where almost everything grows. Chickenhawks to hunt the chickens so your birds run around on their own. Supplies are cheap and plentiful - even things like oak.

I saw a place recently en La Union, Antioquia (in Colombia) with 10 acres of land for $25K.

I know people who just said “screw it”, maxed out all their debt in the US and just moved personally. Screw the bankers. But that takes some guts because you burn that bridge and there’s no going back.
 Quoting: Shaun Kaven

Could you tell me where to look for places like you mentioned in Columbia? I've been looking at the hills/mountainside in southern Brazil but I'm open to Columbia. Plus my Spanish is better than my Portuguese.

I need minimum ten acres and four bedroom.

Thank you.

my best suggestion is get strong used truck and a toy hauler with a sleeper/kitchen ... it is already equipped to run on batteries, propane tanks, water tanks, and solar for not much more ... stay in State Parks, the more remote the better - because they will have water and a dump station - you can stay in any location for a week (or two) as long as you are completely off the road ....buy a generator - ham radio - and a years supply of MREs - and an ATV and about ten gas cans. and 2water barrels

good luck

Your best investment is in your own skills and tools.

Made friends with a Vietnam Marine Vet.. 2 tours.. very religious and conservative, and was a handyman. He had a big truck and work trailer.

He moved down to Florida when a big hurricane hit.. Lived out of damaged homes.. that how power and water.. as he repaired them.. Never owned a home.. just went from one job to next for over 10 years. All his money was saved in Gold and Silver.

Moved later to new hurricane location.

You need work skills and tools.. good truck.. Not Off Grid.. Live out of a Trailer, RV, etc..

There is are a lot of open fields that rent storage space.. for Travel Trailers and RVs.. I see some staying there 6 months a year.. lucky to find a covered one..

Business is the name of the game.. cashflow.

I know another man who owns lots of cheap rentals.. He keeps a room for himself in a couple.. and just travels from one state to the other as he needs too. He has several trucks available..

He likes to say he is "Homeless.." He owns lots of houses.. but does not have a home.

Think outside the box.. Not what some article tells you to do. Super Foam Insulation is very good to save energy cost..

So is the purpose of Off Grid to live cheap, or hide from zombies ??

You will have to eat.. garden, hunting and fishing.. Water is critical.. If you live by yourself.. you are never safe.. criminals are everywhere..

Interesting thread.

Bumping to follow.

I have to say, it's sad that we are talking about such things.... How has the world gone to such shit in the matter of a few years? And we can see now, that this plandemic was well thought out, and planned, with the intention of doing exactly what they are doing.

Shit is going to get weird pretty quickly.

Just get out of the city and into a small town or rural area.
Grow your own food.
Know how to use a firearm and hunt.
Have seeds.
Have generators and batteries in case the grid goes down.
Have lots of open land nearby.
No need to go off the grid it's pretty stupid actually and is a liberal idea started by hippies and extreme environmentalists.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80556087

This is probably best and smartest post on this thread. I hate big cities. But living off the grid would be about just as bad in some aspects worse than living in a big city. I guess off the grid you do have very few nonwhites and less restrictions than in the big cities- but still. Living off the grid is stupid. I have friends who tried it fir a few months. All of them hated it and ended up moving back into rural on the grid locations.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80566128

Dude... Oregon has some of THE most restrictive land use laws and regulations in the country!

Ask me how I know.

Yeah, your KIDS are camping on your land... for what... a few days?

Why don't YOU try camping on your land for a few weeks. See what happens.

"Horseshit" my ass!

It's coming out of your mouth.

I'm in Oregon. I go camping on my land for years at a time. Noone has ever said or did anything to me.

I don't believe you for ONE second.

I happen to live in Oregon too (for the last 30 years), and 4 of my best friends own their own real estate companies.

I've explored EVERY option there is, and what you are saying is pure bullshit.

Or maybe YOUR the one full of bullshit!
