"Huge study supporting ivermectin as Covid treatment withdrawn over ethical concerns
The preprint endorsing ivermectin as a coronavirus therapy has been widely cited, but independent researchers find glaring discrepancies in the data

The efficacy of a drug being promoted by rightwing figures worldwide for treating Covid-19 is in serious doubt after a major study suggesting the treatment is effective against the virus was withdrawn due to “ethical concerns”.

The preprint study on the efficacy and safety of ivermectin ... led by Dr Ahmed Elgazzar from Benha University..., was published on the Research Square website in November.

It claimed to be a randomised control trial, a type of study crucial in medicine because it is considered to provide the most reliable evidence on the effectiveness of interventions...

The study found that patients with Covid-19 treated in hospital who “received ivermectin early reported substantial recovery” and that there was “a substantial improvement and reduction in mortality rate in ivermectin treated groups” by 90%.

But the drug’s promise as a treatment for the virus is in serious doubt after the Elgazzar study was pulled from the Research Square website on Thursday “due to ethical concerns”...

A medical student in London, Jack Lawrence, was among the first to identify serious concerns about the paper, leading to the retraction. ... He found the introduction section of the paper appeared to have been almost entirely plagiarised.

The data also looked suspicious to Lawrence,...

“The authors claimed to have done the study only on 18-80 year olds, but at least three patients in the dataset were under 18,” Lawrence said.

“The authors claimed they conducted the study between the 8th of June and 20th of September 2020, however most of the patients who died were admitted into hospital and died before the 8th of June...

“...the authors claim that four out of 100 patients died in their standard treatment group for mild and moderate Covid-19,” Lawrence said. “According to the original data, the number was 0, the same as the ivermectin treatment group. In their ivermectin treatment group for severe Covid-19, the authors claim two patients died, but the number in their raw data is four.”

Lawrence contacted ... Nick Brown, for help analysing the data and study results more thoroughly.

“The main error is that at least 79 of the patient records are obvious clones of other records,” Brown told the Guardian. “It’s ... hardest to explain away as innocent error, especially since the clones aren’t even pure copies. There are signs that they have tried to change one or two fields to make them look more natural.”
...
The Elgazzar study was one of the the largest and most promising showing the drug may help Covid patients, and has often been cited by proponents of the drug...

Meyerowitz-Katz told the Guardian that ... it appeared to him the data was “just totally faked”. This was concerning because two meta-analyses of ivermectin for treating Covid-19 had included the Elgazzar study in the results...

“Because the Elgazzar study is so large, and so massively positive – showing a 90% reduction in mortality – it hugely skews the evidence in favour of ivermectin,” Meyerowitz-Katz said.

“If you remove this one study from the scientific literature, suddenly there are very few positive randomised control trials of ivermectin for Covid-19. Indeed, if you get rid of just this research, most meta-analyses that have found positive results would have their conclusions entirely reversed.”"

.
.
This fraudulent POS is the lynchpin for Theresa Lawrie's meta-analysis which is touted by all the Ivermectin shills and grifters.
Now that it is retracted and shown to be obviously fraudulent, that makes the conclusions of Lawrie's paper invalid as the rest of the studies she depends on are small and of low quality.
This would explain the discrepancy with the June published, high quality paper in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases:
[link to academic.oup.com (secure)]
Ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
which concluded:
"IVM is not a viable option to treat COVID-19 patients."
.
Time to kiss Ivermectin goodbye just as was done with hydroxychloroquine.
There's no "there" there.
Sad, but true.

The "large, high quality RCT study" that showed it to be effective was just tossed into the trash by the journal due to "ethical concerns"... IOW - The authors are gigantic liars and frauds.

Nope ...

Maybe so, with ivermectin. I'd like to re-analyze with this study removed. Was this just for in-hospital patients, or did include mile pre-hospital cases too?

Also, was ivermectin supposed to help with the synthetic protein spikes caused by the mRNA "vaxes"? I want a clear answer whether that's still true or not.

But hydroxychloroquine (the original "Zelenko protocol") still works if taken early.

This is a day late and a dollar short. This little exercised was used as a pretext to keep the drug from the market as they willingly killed people by over dosing them with the drug and using those numbers to discredit the study thus making look like the drug was a no go. You people are late in the news cycle or complicit in the scam. There is a great deal of CIA trolls in here.

Dr. Pierre Kory, Chief Medical Officer of the FLCCC Alliance, joins Bret Weinstein, host of The DarkHorse Podcast to discuss “Covid, Ivermectin and the Crime of the Century.” This program, which many quickly called “the best podcast I have ever listened to” lays out the truth about ivermectin and how the suppression of its efficacy against COVID-19 has cost hundreds of thousands of people their lives.

Yeah, that's the Hill meta analysis which depends on one large RCT that showed a large effect... the Elgazzar study that was just trashcanned.
The rest of the studies in Hill's paper are small, low quality studies with high probability for bias which showed none, minor, mild effects unlike the large Elgazzar study which showed large dramatic effects.
.
There is no there there.
No effect. Hill, et al. should issue a retraction/correction once this Elgazzar mess is settled.

Elgazzar has been cited 30 times so a lot of research papers are going to have to be pulled or rewritten. That's why scientific fraud needs to be caught and severely punished.
In this instance Elgazzar & Co. may have killed people with their fraud so what should be done about that?
