In my own journey, I have discovered that being drawn to the Lord causes a HUGE degree of offense to some people. They absolutely cannot abide the idea and will lash out, repeatedly. I have remained quiet about it in my own circles for this reason, though that time is coming to an end, thankfully.

Just keep the faith OP. Don't let them get to you. They will do anything possible to discredit you and pull you away.

Just be patient with those spewing hatred toward Christianity. Some are disillusioned and just need time, some are misled, and some are angry for various reasons and strike out at those who follow it since they can't strike out at God.

They are only damaging themselves in the long run, as are the Christians who lash back out in reply.

Guilty as charged here too.

40+ years of hating the church. Never actually read the Word.

I like to joke of it as "God finally smacked me upside the head", but it was a much more profound experience - one that I am still struggling to make sense of almost 2 years later.

I think you and I may come from similar backgrounds spiritually and philosophically, so I will ask you a question!

Have you discovered that many of your old beliefs have not been invalidated, but actually supported, as you began to embrace Christianity? I always thought I'd have to "toss my brain out the window" to follow the Lord, instead I find that all the things I believed simply started making more sense within the context of the Bible. I was always searching for ways to break free of the lies and rise above the human condition, when there is quite literally an entire book about doing exactly that.

It’s amazing how much our behavior is a deflection from the pain we feel inside. I pity that in the people around me now. There’s a baseline peace and joy I feel now that has replaced my anger and impatience. It’s all part of the gift of grace I’ve received. People who know me are amazed at the change. Even with my wife and what she’s done, I try to show kindness and compassion as we move closer to divorce. Gods way is the best way. I tried my way and it failed.

Do Chuck Missler videos count? blink

I live in VERY Catholic Ireland. Where I'm at in the country, there isn't a protestant church for 100 miles.

We'll survive. Between listening to Chuck Missler and some really good Christian Apologists, I've been making good progress in my understanding of the Bible.

Still mad at Chuck for implying there can't be any other life in the Universe simply because UFOs are manifestations of fallen angels. Course, he's passed on now so he probably doesn't know I'm miffed at him. LOL

Lot's of things for me are changing the more I learn. Even found out that BS is in the Bible! Paul was writing a letter to one of the Churches and called a certain kind of thinking 'bovine excrement. I laughed so hard I almost split my sides!

We are counted as fools in the world, op.

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

Missler definitely counts in my book! His stuff is excellent and i learned a lot from him even before I became a Christian. If you have the time and interest, learning Ancient Greek is definitely worth doing and something I could give you tips on. Just like Missler says, some ability to read Greek helps protect you against false doctrine. If you're ever interested, let me know.

Missler has an interview with Art Bell from the 90s I believe where he talks about UFOs and aliens. Worth a listen if you can find it. To me be didn't sound super dogmatic about things, but I'm not sure how that view evolved over time. He published a book on the topic.

The Bible has lots of amazing little snippets like that in it. It's definitely a far more nuanced book that many think. There's simply no text I've ever read that even compares with it.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80646977

I have this weird personality quirk (we'll see if it continues now that I'm a Christian) which makes me "reset" aspects of my life periodically. It started when I was a teenager, when I would periodically clean out my bedroom and throw out things from the past. Not entirely sure why I do it. But in any case, it has driven me to delete my online presence several times, including on GLP, facebook, twitter, etc. Many of my friends around here can attest to that. With each periodic "reset" I have a tendency to eliminate various things permanently (e.g. facebook) whereas other things prove themselves to have permanent value (e.g. GLP).

And a light to my path.
106 I have sworn and I will confirm it,
That I will keep Your righteous ordinances.
107 I am exceedingly afflicted;
Revive me, O Lord, according to Your word.
108 O accept the freewill offerings of my mouth, O Lord,
And teach me Your ordinances.
109 My life is continually in my hand,
Yet I do not forget Your law.
110 The wicked have laid a snare for me,
Yet I have not gone astray from Your precepts.
111 I have inherited Your testimonies forever,
For they are the joy of my heart.
112 I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes
Forever, even to the end.

All that were elected to become saved were secured before or on May 21 2011 the end of the 23 year / 8400 day great tribulation when judgment day began and God's salvation plan ended.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71092347

That is simply NOT true. Pontificate all you want but no where in God's Word does it indicate dates. We've been in the "end times" since the Resurection.

Many elect will be brought to Christ in the days to come. To say He is done is heresy.

Has the superiority complex set in yet? Have you begun to classify everything as "good or bad", black and white yet? Have you started to point out, to yourself, how many of your friends and family will, "burn in hell for all eternity, And secretly feel good about it because that's what they'll deserve for not committing to God like you have?

Have you read weird things in the Bible that seems to defy logic, like burning forever in a fiery pit at the hands of Satan, and then simply just put it out of your mind and just assume that "God works in MYSTERIOUS ways" but somehow it festers in your subconscious?

People who do that are straying from the path. Judge not lest ye be judged and do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Christians should live by example, patience, love, and understanding, not vitriol and condemnation.

I think you've ran into many examples of people being led astray. I hope you find ones that don't do that so you can see that we're not all like that. I hope you have a nice day! :)

Amen.

Galatians 5:19–23 (NAS): Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,
20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,
21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

This describes religion, not salvation in Jesus Christ.

One who receives salvation from Jesus Christ feels no more superior to or judgmental of others than does a drowning victim rescued from certain death.

I pray you see your true condition while you have time. Pointing out others' hypocrisy, no matter how accurate, doesn't change the gravity of your situation.

Have you read weird things in the Bible that seems to defy logic, like burning forever in a fiery pit at the hands of Satan, and then simply just put it out of your mind and just assume that "God works in MYSTERIOUS ways" but somehow it festers in your subconscious?

YOU WILL....

Speak for yourself, I'm no sinner. Bet I'm more pure than any religious nut.

That's possible, but if you've ever sinned in any way, you need the forgiveness only Jesus Christ can provide. Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

True. Nobody wants to be the purest, most moral sinner in hell.
