In the future it is quite possible that an inflatable structure(s) can generate a magnetic dipole field at a level of perhaps 1 or 2 Tesla (or 10,000 to 20,000 Gauss) as an active shield against the solar wind." You can get a decent bump in atmospheric pressure within a couple of years: "As a result, Mars atmosphere would naturally thicken over time, which lead to many new possibilities for human exploration and colonization. According to Green and his colleagues, these would include an average increase of about 4 °C (~7 °F), which would be enough to melt the carbon dioxide ice in the northern polar ice cap. This would trigger a greenhouse effect, warming the atmosphere further and causing the water ice in the polar caps to melt. By their calculations, Green and his colleagues estimated that this could lead to 1/7th of Mars' oceans – the ones that covered it billions of years ago – to be restored. If this is beginning to sound a bit like a lecture on how to terraform Mars, it is probably because these same ideas have been raised by people who advocating that very thing. But in the meantime, these changes would facilitate human exploration between now and mid-century." |

So I'm not sure you can logically say "better" because none of it has been attempted, Your idea might not work because of energy needs, where mine would, physically require the least amount of maintenance, would be permanent-fix, wouldn't need extra energy, where yours requires energy to maintain. Here's another idea that would require energy to maintain, I've theorized using huge HAARP-like facilities, to reverb an atmosphere, as well, similar to the same frequency, but ratio'd down for Mars' smaller size, would be a slighter higher vibration-field, being broadcasted out in radiowaves, to mimmic the heartbeat of Mars' of what it could be with the proper fields to sustain an atmosphere. But I ran into issues, figuring out a way to power all of it without touching other areas of Mars for power/energy use to maintain it. When you can prove your idea is passive and is maintained for hundreds of thousands of years, you let me know. Mine is a permanent and passive project. Staging a satellite to "shield Mars" again is not sustainable, isn't permanent, something could knock the satellite out, and we'd be screwed, would be catastrophic if it ever failed. So no, your NASA idea isn't better. Sorry. "what would you do if you, knew all the things we knew. Would you stand up for truth, or would you turn and walk away" |

Of course, it's all speculation. Drilling to the core would be insanely difficult. Most people don't understand we can barely scratch the surface of the earth with our mining. No, we have advanced drilling/mining/underground-base earth-slicing pods. We can do it, they are quite efficient, plus with RF we can map out underground caves that help make the process easier/faster. All drones, no lives lost until the drill and fill is complete. Mars has been restarting for some time and it does not need a magnetosphere at this time Quoting: ALL IS ONE IS ALL I agree, but wouldn't it be nice to have a back-up planet that is filled with hemp for the purpose of restarting a good-green society with advanced plant-materials? Plus to show that it can be done, so that maybe Earth would finally grow some Hemp for fuel and building-material products "what would you do if you, knew all the things we knew.
