Camping or SHTF Emergencies Lightweight 1-Burner Stove, Barbecue Grill, Small Solar Lights, SUGGESTIONS PLEASE
What's the lightest weight, most portable & easy to store?

1) 1-burner stove (with what fuel?) to heat water

2) tabletop barbecue grill to cook burgers, dogs, veggies.

3) small solar lights

Must be suitable if the power temporarily goes out or if I'm camping.

All sensible/practical suggestions appreciated.

For camping and possible if SHTF? MSR PocketRocket or Jetboil Flash.

Both are lightweight, reliable, and use Isobutane-Propane fuel. Cheap fuel, light, easy, and reliable.

Okay, that biolite stove is kinda cool for a SHTF scenario, but for camping it looks like it could be problematic for reliable cooking given the reliance on small sticks.

Heck you can run it on pine cones! I know a woman with a thermal mass rocket stove in East Van who heats 1200sq' and raises rabbits for the plate on one. She only uses pinecones. 'Relying' on twigs is pretty useful camping. With proper cookware it isn't an issue. Though cast iron is heavy to haul about.

I bought this bastard. It's not exactly light, but damn, it will heat water in a flash!

You need a standard propane tank though.

Cowboy coffee kicks ass in the morning when camping.
Start the fire, put a pot of water on, add the coffee grinds, bring to a boil, take it off the grill, let the coffee grinds settle to the bottom, carefully pour the top into you cup.
Oh yeah!

Anything that runs on gas will eventually be useless in a shtf scenario.

1st rule: Less is more.
Get a fire starter tool, some fire rope and some long burning candles.

The knowledge in how to use them properly will last a life time.
Making your own fire and cooking over it: priceless!

Lifelong woodsman here.

Get one of the smalll, screw-on stoves that work with either butane or propane cylinders. They’re noisy, but cook fast. Wal-Mart has them in the camping section for about $15:

[link to www.walmart.com (secure)]

UCO makes a several small folding grills that work well:

[link to ucogear.com (secure)]

For small solar lights, you can’t beat Walmart again, at less than $1 each:

Hope this helps, hon! hf
