You wanna know something weird?
In my area of MN you can dig 5 feet down and hit water.

Yes sir. Even in the middle of winter. 5 feet down is liquid water.

Houses here have sump pumps in their basements to keep them from flooding.

Well about 3 months ago the sump pumps weren't coming on. It was still raining. But the ground water was so low that the sump pump never would activate to pump the water.

Then 2 months ago it stopped raining completely except for a half inch on the 4th of July.

Well 3 days ago the sump pump started activating and pumping again meaning the ground level water returned to normal. The thing is this was without any rain....Then yesterday it rained.

So my question is. What the fuck actually happened?

Why would the ground water level fall when it was still raining.

and

Why would the ground water level rise with no precipitation?

Thanks
Uncle Gintel

Re: You wanna know something weird?
It means the water has gone to somewhere else.
Just that.
Happens.

When my house was built there was a well beneath and we had our own water. (there's many natural wells down there, there's cards for them.
10years ago the water was gone.
Maybe due to more houses built, maybe due to a new company making lemonade and using well water 4 kilometers away.
I don't know.
Can't usw the one that for 50years was just fine and giving nice fresh water for free.

This year it rained heavily and still no water back down there.

And another funny thing, if you look up the geological ground maps for here, where you can see in what depth groundwater flows, it shows a steady 5 meters digging will bring you right in the middle of the big groundwater pool. This data exists for at least 50 decades.
If you hire a company to built your own well, every single company digs at least 12 meters, more than double the needed depth.

So, sometimes wells in the ground just change their path.
