They say across the board that the wheat crop in the inland NW is absolutely horrible right now. They also told me that corn is bad as well. Quoting: Bloody Peasant! Combine this with flooding in Asia, water issues in California, and we are in for a rough ride for global food production. Not a good sign All is business as normal here in Central Oregon |

I know the rest of you do, but so you have to eat some gluten-free shit! It's not bad once you get use to it! Quoting: Justthefacts12345 Cows, chickens & pigs eat wheat & corn. (less meat available). The people who DO eat wheat & corn will now be putting a strain on whatever you eat. You should start to care! |
Horticulture User ID: 76437615 United States 07/27/2021 04:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes, I live in the wheat lands in eastern Washington, and we have had no moisture in over two months. Combine that with most days temps in the high 90s or up to 113 at my place, and the extent of this disaster is clear. Most farms wont harvest enough wheat to pay for the seed and fuel costs. The good news is that the four prior years produced hefty yields and many farmers have significant wheat in storage. So there is some buffer if it comes to that. |

Anyway he said the wheat crops have been bad since the tariffs on soybeans started, which I personally couldn’t be happier for, however the farmers that usually grew soybeans started growing wheat and the grain was very subpar. He did say that the last few cycles have been much better. “When you’re dead you’re dead, but you’re not quite so dead if you contribute something” -John Dunsworth |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 80655920 United States 07/27/2021 05:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We have a small-ish farm in the PNW and I can tell you what OP is saying is correct. We don’t grow wheat but grow alfalfa and grass hay and raise beef cows. Our yields are way down for hay. We usually get 3 cuttings and got 2 on one field and 1 cutting on another. We have friends that grow wheat and all their yields are down. Many people are selling their cows because they won’t have enough hay for the winter. The dry spring and hot temperatures have taken a big toll. It’s the worst we have seen. We are hoping to keep all our cows but we are having to buy hay for them for the first time since we don’t have enough of our own to feed them all. It’s going to be a rough winter here for people and animals unfortunately. |

Not a good sign I just saw a friends wheat crop posting from the east side of Washington state. He showed 2020 crop where it is up to his chest. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72720837 That is what i am talking about, right there. Very pleased to hear the news. Having crops in the bins will not help the cost of wheat futures right now. With the NW crops failing and the MSM all beating the same drum beat, then the price of wheat will be what the futures end at TODAY. So at the end of the day the price of wheat will go up even if every single wheat bin was to be pushed onto the market today. The farmers who have harvested wheat will wait until the price skyrockets and then they will release their wheat. The government might tell the farmers to let go of the wheat but the farmers have had enough of the government telling them what to do. Thus, looking at their own financial situation, the framers will be banking big bucks and not feel bad that some inner city hood rat might not get a sammich for his lunch. |
