There’s no where to just bulldoze stuff. Ever driven that road?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77326810

Move the stuff into the river channel along with all the stuff that just fell in there.

Make a little rapids there, bring in some kayaks and create a little park and a train station too, and charge money to the tourists.

Or is that deemed "environmentally irresponsible" or something?

Here is drone footage of the one slide. There have been many slides over the past several weeks and we are currently under flash flood watch again today.

Didn't Barry Hussein Sotero promise "shovel ready jobs" as part of a multi-billion dollar infrastructure program back in 2008 that promised to shore up stuff like this.

I guess that went the way of Solyndra and the California high speed train to nowhere that has yet to see a mile of track.

We suckas, suckas all!!!!

The Glenwood Canyon is ran by a bunch of twits who barricade at the sniff of a distant brush fire, stacking traffic further than the eye can see.. for days.

For them to say it's closed indefinitely is incredibly ignorant.. clear the damn debris, fix the damn road and gtfo.

They could just build a bridge over the canyon flood area.

No simple solution to this problem. It took many years to engineer and build this road. They will get it open soon if we don't get more rain, but it will take time to fix the damage.

Yeah that could work. Build the bridge on one side at a time, route the traffic to the other side. You need something for the water washing down that canyon to pass under, a bridge or at least a culvert.

Poor design on the highway to not take into account that there might be a slurry flush from the canyon.

Re: Drone footage of I-70 Glenwood Canyon damage from mudslides
That is an AMAZING vid of footage. Great post OP!

1. They shouldn't even bother trying to fix I70 at Glenwood Springs because the footage clearly indicates more slides to come with upcoming rains or snow melt- the next ones look as though they will break off huge chunks of the mountain toward the bottom of the slide path.

2. Which if the case indeed means a vital and isolated major cargo route is now permanently closed off once the larger pieces come down.

3. Drone cams CAN be used for good.

4. But that footage should also be a warning to those who think they will escape the devil's nwo wrath by moving up into the mountains that their drones WILL hunt down all heated life they are targeting or searching for.

How does it show that huge chunks will break off later? And if that's known, could they be pre-broken while the road is closed, the canyon made safe, and the road upgraded?

It's an important highway, and it's certainly possible to build it through that area.

Re: Drone footage of I-70 Glenwood Canyon damage from mudslides
One poster above pointed out that they should have engineered the road for Gully Wash Out events ... since that is what happens in the mountains. Maybe bridges over those areas like they often put roads UNDER avalanche protectors where a road goes through an major avalanche prone area.

I-70 in Glenwood Canyon is BEAUTIFUL ... but it seems to have to be closed at least yearly, sometimes more often, due to major rock falls of one sort or another onto the road. I-80 just 80 miles to the North is a MORE DEPENDABLE route through the Rockies so maybe it is time to terminate I-70 just past Vail and turn the Glenwood Canyon route into just a two lane scenic road with trucks and commercial vehicles PROHIBITTED so as to discourage people from driving it for commercial purposes ... (much like the Blue Ridge Parkway does NOT allow heavy trucks or commercial vehicles - tour buses are OK though)
