I LIKE the 50MPG and the back door looks like it opens wide for people to get in the back seat.

Skinny tires would induce cornoring problems at high speeds, IMHO. BUT, knowing Americans, they would quickly adapt new rims and wider tires, with some loss to that 50 MPG.

Seems great for seniors from the standpoit of savings in initial price AND costly gasoline ! Great for a 'runabout' and shopping, me thinks.

I had a FIAT about this size when I was 16. It was a great kids car. VW Bugs were the rage then too.

A personal revelation of mine was that not only is a large luxury car a waste, it is just added stress. Not only does it cost 5x as much for routine maintanance and breakdowns, you really care about it getting dented and scratched which is GOING to happen. I have a nice, comfortable practical car and I don't even notice when it gets a little scratch. A far cry from the heartattack I used to have every time I came out and found yet another scratch on my fancy car. With gas continuing to rise, we would be better served to drive the smart cars that are popular in Europe. The cheaper, the better I say! You can talk about safety ratings all day but I have not yet had an accident in my lifetime but I DO pay for gas every week.

That IS true. Heck, you can't even find a beat-up 1987 Honda Accord here for $2500...

Well, as far as accidents go, if you drive safely, and DON'T SPEED, you should be fine. Speed kills.

Um, yeah. All that research to get a "safer" car for your kids but you don't value their life enough to slow the fuck down, leave a little early, turn down your favorite 80s cd and pay attention, etc.

This probably wouldnt be the car to take on a road trip, but for students and people who live in the cities, its the perfect car. Easy to park, doesnt use gas. Cheap.

I think it would be fine on a road trip except for the MPH restrictions. If you don't drive like a bat out of hell, it would be great because of the MPG.

I gotta tell ya this POS car story. Long long time ago I had this Girlfriend. Well her mom bought her a Yugo, brand new, cheap crap mobile for her to drive around in, cost $3999.00. So I get in the thing brand new, go to roll the window down, snap the crank off like a twig, I felt bad, this is a brand new car. What it was is that the handles turned backwards, opposite from any American car, and the handles were really crappy plastic. So call the dealer to get a new one, back ordered to like 2012, lol, lot's of handles broken. Dealer says, "You know the crank turns backwards don't ya?" I say, "yeah now...",lol. So this was the beginning of the saga of "The Ugo"

So GF drives the thing around for awhile, some months, but not too long. Something happens, develops a cooling leak, and she is just putting water in, never says anything. Kinda mostly living with me, but not 100% so I don't notice. After a while, really leaking bad, she tells me, water pump is shot. So she borrows Moms old car, which was a Honda, 10x better car. Driving that for a couple weeks, Ugo sits in my apartment parking lot until I can repair, couple few weeks girlfriend is driving Honda Mom says I will just buy a brand new Honda, gives GF older Honda...now Ugo is second fiddle and unwanted.

So Ugo sits, which was no issue, and GF goes down the road of turning into a Piece of shit herself. So she is fired from being my Girlfriend. She owes me some money, bout 3-400 bucks if I remember, tell her I am keeping Ugo hostage until she forks up. Welp, poor Ugo doesn't get ransomed, some months go by. Time has come that I am going to move to new apartment. Ugo can't stay, but I have a brilliant plan. Since my new Apartment is farther away from my job and my 400 FireBird has never met a gas station it didn't want to have sex with, I will re-animate Ugo and drive it back and forth to work and if anything happens, Ugo gets left where it does, not my car, XGF is POS, so I don't really care.

So I re-animate Ugo with a new water pump, Ugo has 1900 miles on it. So I make my move and I am driving Ugo back and forth to my job. Now Machinists are like work in a Firehouse so I get some joking about Ugo, Where's the Bird man? and what's up with that POS? So I don't give a crap about Ugo either, just driving it to keep miles off the Bird and it's a disposo car. So we all have fun goofin on Ugo, couple guys we could lift up the back end and put it sideways in a parking spot, could almost flip it, and my buddies are generally wanting to do experiments to it like flip it upside and spin it around, but I say no, not to be destroyed.

So some time goes by and lemmie tell ya driving that thing was like driving a mailbox on wheels. Semi's going by would almost blow Ugo off the road, and it was all Ugo could do to get up to 65mph for the few exits I drove on I-95 everyday. I have a lot of miles driving different and various levels of crappyness vehicles as well as motorcycles so I can deal with it, but I think that this is never a vehicle I would give to an average driver.

So one day at work shipping Dude comes up to me and says some Fed spooks are bringing some nuclear power plant thing to test out this out this nuclear power plant thing we were building and the parking has to be clear in the corner where Ugo parks so they can park the thing there and baby sit it over night, do the fitting test in the morning and be gone. So Ugo has to move, I am busy, so he says do I want to him to fork lift it to another spot. I say no I need a break anyway, I'll move Ugo. So I get in, start up, begin backing out and crash, and Ugo's whole nose on one side is on the ground. I think Bastards un-did Ugo's front wheel? but this would not be something the guys would do. So get out, shipping dude is laughing, and saying holy shit, and I look and Ugo's entire drivers side control arm and wheel assembly is flat out splayed out on the ground, still attached and wheel still bolted on. Dude says, "What the fuck happened?" I say, "Got me, but might as well fork it now, lol" So he scoops Ugo up and forklifts it into a corner. I look at it and it seems like nothing is destroyed, I assume a tie rod or something broke. So grab a ride home and come back next day with my FireBird and some tools to check on Ugo.

So jack Ugo up and checking around, I grab the little baby control arm assembly and shove it back where it is supposed to be, damned if Ugo isn't lookin repaired already. Now this is kinda mystifying me, because this was a pretty massive failure, I mean the entire wheel assembly was flat as a pancake on the ground and it looked like Ugo did a Dukes of Hazzard jump and didn't survive, now Ugo looks almost as good as new and I haven't done squat yet. So I am poking around and it looks to me as is a cross pin broke and fell out and that was the cause. So there is an auto-parts store right across the street so I walk over. On the way I see a bolt on the ground, has that yellow Iridide plating on it common for auto parts so I grab it, thinking that this could be the bolt that held in the cross piece that is now gone that caused the catastrophic failure of Ugo. I check it out and it is broken on the end, and rusted there too, so I think I think I have some Ugo failure debris and pocket it and walk to store.

So go to parts counter and tell dude what I am looking for and he gets out a parts book and we look through to find Ugo's front wheel assemblies. So we find it and we are looking at exploded view and I am saying I am looking for whatever goes here and holds the control arms assembly to the frame, we can't find anything. Dude says to me, "It looks like just a bolt man, but that's kinda fucked up" I say yeah it is, but got a part number, maybe there is more to it than it shows, got that part? He says yeah, he goes and gets it. It is the bolt I found, only with a nut and threads. He is scratching his head and I take bolt out of my pocket, same thing. I say that has got to be it, tell him what happened and we agree, that is pretty fucked up, but it looks like how it is, he cannot believe that there is no cross pin with cotter pins and nuts on it or something, and neither can I. I am still not 100% sure of this, so I buy the bolt, a 9mm by about 2 inches for like $1.59 and head out the door.

Return to Ugo on a jack, put bolt in, tighten, look around and nothing seems missing, BTW couple washers came with, so all put together. I snoop around on the other side, same thing, one bolt. I am sorta stunned now, take Ugo off the jack, drive around the lot a bit and Ugo is 100%, for what that was worth. I shut door, look at Ugo and say, "Ugo, you got to go" start putting away gear and a buddy pulls in who said he would try and make it to give me a hand because we assumed big job. He says damn man you're an animal, all done? I say, wasn't anything to it, tell him the story and we are both pretty stunned by it. I say yeah man, and I was drivin this POS on 95, and that bolt was rusted, it was likely broken for a while, could you imagine what would have happened if that came apart doing 60 on I-95? I'd be dead, or worse....we aren't too happy and we both are looking at Ugo now like a killer. So I tell him, I think I know what to do, we both split and Ugo sits alone in the corner......

I come into work on Monday, tell some of my buds, This weekend, Ugo takes one last drive up to where we shoot and it's gonna get swiss cheesed, I have declared Ugo un-safe at any speed and it must be put down. So bout 4 or 5 guys, all put up about 50 bucks and we'll get a 1000 rounds for the AK-47 and some skeets and shells and various other ammo and make a day of it. We have gone shooting before so a few of the regulars are, "I'm in, or I can't make it" and we got some dudes ready to go Ugo blastin......

So old guy I work with comes up to me..."isn't that thing like brand new?" I say yep, got like 3500 miles on it, but it's got to die, too bad soo sad sucks to be Ugo. So he says, "well my daughter..." I cut him short, I say forget it, not gonna happen, and you don't want your daughter in that shitbox, trust me. He says no, daughter has a small farm about 60 miles north and they need a farm buggy, they are shopping around, but they are pretty expensive, couple or few grand, he's thinking that Ugo might be good for one. I am skeptical and say that Ugo cannot be allowed on the road with Human beings in it and must be put down. He says he would be willing to put it on a recovery truck and flat bed it up there, then cut Ugo up so it could never be used on the road again, torch the roof off etc and make a little farm buggy out of it. He is a good guy so I trust him, I make him swear he will chop Ugo up, no gettin second thoughts, he promises he will and how much for the car. I say gimmie a hundred bucks for some ammo cause all the guys want to go shooting now and will be disappointed no Ugo blasting so I'll spend it on ammo and all will be cool, so we agree.

Next weekend some of my buddies and I go shooting and have a great time. Come back to work on Monday, I see Ugo is gone from parking lot. See the old guy and say how'd it go? He said well I got a recovery truck and got it up there no sweat, bout another 100 bucks. Says he breaks out the torch and daughter starts saying, "this car is almost brand new, it only has 3500 miles on it, we should keep it as a car" He says no I promised the guy, and starts torching. Cuts off the roof and hatch back, rips out back seats and they got a little Ugo buggy. He tells me, well my daughter got in it, said it was a shame to break a brand new car, lol, but I told her that was how it is, she drives away in the dirt and he tells me that little Ugo was bendin and flexing like a slinky-mobile as it rode away on the farm. He said he never saw anything twist so much, lol, that next weekend would get some metal and weld it in so the Ugo buggy wouldn't be so much like a wet noodle, lol. We laughed and said he probably had the only farm buggy with AC a stereo and bucket seats, rofl.

Wonder if Ugo is still on the job today...maybe.......
That's about all these cheapo POS little tin boxes are good for. Kind of a sad story for a car, but I had no sympathy for Ugo, he was killer that just got caught before he could kill, at least he got re-habbed......;)

Ya gets whatcha pays for. You may pay for gas every week, but you only die once. You may be the best driver in the world. I know I am. got into an accident though. Guy pulled out in front of me. Didn't see me coming. And I drive a Dodge Dakota. Totaled his toyada. And if not for my skill would have totaled his gal in the front seat. Was originally going for the front door, managed to caox it to hit the fron pillar instead. Even the Super Trooper was amazed. And I was only doing 30mph.
