If people applied themselves a little to studying eqs they’d realize it’s not just the shaking of the land that’s interesting but the volcanic eruptions they lead to. But people are more interested in race and sex. That’ll change as things in nature escalate. Nature can dispense fear far better than race and COVID fearing man can.

Actually earthquakes in this scale have been known to cause MASSIVE TSUNAMIS before in the past, if they are generated by massive landslides such as sides of volcanoes slipping into the sea.

Just a little studying is required. I’m not saying you have to become a seismologist.

Pretty sure that's just the tidal bore wave that goes up the yangtze every month..people line up to watch it. Some places it hits the wal along thw river and splashes up. Not often as big as in fhe pic..but that looks 15 or so years old..now they generally move people back a bit more in certain spots.

I think you may be reading the Gamma Ray Burst Graphics
incorrectly. Below is an example. The LINE shows the
intensity while the NUMBERS ALONG THE BOTTOM give the
part-of-1-second-time-duration.

makes a huge difference.

Even the Huge Gamma Ray Burst (which was a record at
the time in 2004) which is said to have caused the
Sumatra Christmas Quake and Tsunami killing over 1/2
million around the Pacific Rim was only measured in
SECONDS (not hours.) A strong gamma ray burst that
lasted 2 hours would STERILIZE the planet, kiddo!

It's all good--I had this confused when I looked at the
charts myself.
