Sure it might comeback to bite the other party in the ass BUT it would be a powerful weapon to force a president to pay attention to the electorate throughout their term (as opposed to just at election time) instead of just paying attention to congress (where the President can be remove via impeachment) or the cabinet (who can remove a President via the 25th amendment).

Re: We need a constitutional Amendment enabling the electorate to recall a president
Right now a President ONLY courts the electorate, from whom all power ultimately derives, when running for the office.

Once that office is secured, the electorate has NO recourse other than to vote that President out of office in the next election cycle.

Absent "high crimes and misdemeanors" (for which the remedy to remove the President is impeachment and a senate vote for conviction) OR, in the case of incapacitation, physical or mental (where the 25th amendment can be deployed), the electorate has no power to demand a President who has lost (or betrayed) their confidence be removed.

This is an oversight in our constitution and fabled balance of power that needs to be redressed.

Point well taken but if enough, as you call them, IFS voters can agree to recall a President then there must be a fairly compelling reason that weaponizes their stupidity to enforce a recall of the President, no?

BTW: The proposed "recall amendment" should apply to our legislators (House and Senate) as well. It would keep them slightly more beholden to the electorate than their lobbyists.

There is no way to recall a member of Congress before their term ends, nor has there ever been. No U.S. senator or member of the House of Representatives has been recalled by the electorate. Americans are unable to remove an elected member of the House or Senate from office because there is no recall mechanism set forth in the Constitution.

Now it has been argued that the 10th Amendment leaves open the possibility of a recall under the argument that "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

In other words, because the Constitution doesn't explicitly provide for OR prohibit a recall mechanism such is therefore a power "delegated to the state" to recall their elected federal officials. Now the 10th Amendment argument would apply to the President as well but an EXPLICIT RECALL AMENDMENT to the constitution would defeat any argument that a recall is NOT something "allowed" by the 10th.
