This isn't Louisiana's first rodeo. Pretty sure they will find a way. After IKE, my power was out for a solid month. Luckily I had bought a 5kw generator. Of course the internet and cell phone were also without service. Had to drive about 30 miles away to get gasoline for the genny. I just had a bunch of extension cords to keep the fridge going, hooked up a window air conditioner, a few lights, a fan, and could run the Dishwasher and washer and dryer by plugging them in one at a time. (Gas dryer, and gas stove) I was getting pretty darn sick of it after a month, but I lived. The water supply was also screwed to the area because of a large Oak that fell and broke someones huge sprinkler system supply pipe and laid across the shutoff valve. Had to get my chain saw going and went out and but up the tree. Neighbors helped move the wood out of the way and then we shut off the leaking pipe, restoring water to the neighborhood. All major electric transmission lines have been destroyed. Quoting: Coppercoal All the big towers that deliver power to the city have been knocked over. They're gone... You have over 1.2 million people grouped together in a low lying swamp surrounded by limited transport access. You can't pump gas because there is no electricity... The water is in a similar situation... with major power down, it's only a matter of time before backup generators (if they're still functioning) will run out of fuel. You can't charge your cell phones because most people don't have ways to charge up without a connection to a power line or running car. How long can we expect your average city dweller to survive without their digital distractions, a warm meal, and clean water? No lights. No 911 services. And it will take the city a week... 1 week... just to assess the damage and repair plans for the big power transmission lines... before any recommended repairs are sent for... Then there is the task to bring in the materials, machinery, and labor to build new giant power transmission towers. How much longer will that take? And that doesn't even include the surface street power line repairs that will be needed to bring power to each city block and home. Do you know what this means? Utter bollocks. All towers? All transmission lines? Yeah right You brits are so bloody literal. He doesn’t mean every single tower is down. Looks pretty bad to me. Some of those massive towers that run across the water have toppled over. You don’t just bring in a small crane and hoist up a new telephone pole…. These will require a lot of engineering, fabricating and construction work. YOU NITWIT ASSFACE you said the same thing DICKHEAD This is not the forum you belong on. "The "catastrophic intensity" of the storm resulted in Entergy losing all eight transmission lines delivering power into New Orleans, the utility said in a statement Sunday evening. The loss of transmission led to a load imbalance which resulted in generation dropping offline." Augmented by Grace |

It's not just locals who are stranded there either. Thousands of travelers are stuck in the New Orleans region after Hurricane Ida made landfall Sunday afternoon. Jennifer Alban, of Richland, said she remained stranded in her downtown New Orleans hotel room Monday Aug. 30. She was in the city for a conference and was unable to leave before the storm hit. "I was looking for flights out of New Orleans to any part of the country. As soon as you find them and click purchase, they were gone. There were no rental cars available either," Alban said. I went through Hurricane Michael, Cat5. Every single power pole was down in the entire city for miles and miles. They estimated 2-months, but a few days later they had mobilized linemen from all over the entire country and we got power in about 2-3 weeks for most places. Quoting: Silenced J They will string up Emergency lines on wood poles to get power into the city ... and then later start replacing the towers and rebuilding the feed lines. I imagine they will have "some" power restored going into the city in 2 days ... 4 days at the most ... but it may only be enough to power up the sewage plants, water plants, and hospitals. Live in a house or apartment? Figure on 3 to 6 weeks or have a store in a strip center ... I would guess depending upon how bad your neighborhood grid has been damaged. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78130925 New Orleans has some of the toughest blacks in the country and a lot of them are in gangs. After Katrina a bunch of them were brought to Baton Rouge and Houston, and the crime rates went way up in those areas where they were brought. I can only imagine the absolute chaos that is going to take place. Thanks to the media and their constant rhetoric against so called white supremacists, it's going to be even worse than during Katrina. It will be open season on white people - theft, rape and murder, though lots of innocent blacks and others will be victims of this mayhem too. If people did not evacuate before the hurricane came through their lives will certainly be in danger. Peepaws |

I know it’s a foreign concept in your glitter doom hopes but they have these things called generators. They are capable of providing electricity to extremely large populations. Not necessarily to individuals homes but they can provide locations with AC and other amenities we think we need. And it was only one…one tower that collapsed so it will not mean 60 days with no electricity. They will need to wait for the flood waters to recede, and power can be largely restored to most areas. That tower is not the only source to funnel power to the area. |

I stand by my nomination for dumbest post of the month, I also nominate your uneducated post about standing water in a city literally surrounded by one of the largest swamps in the country, with bayous everywhere, canals always filled with water, a lake on the other side and the marsh on the other.
