A few of my cats have had this over the years and now new dog. I was never quite sure of source with catsbut my vets have always said your cat can't get one flea bite if it is allergic, and then educated myself on fleas. They come in on your clothes just one but that's all it takes to make one cat miserable if allergic. Once a cat starts getting OCD on a flea it seems to set off a chain of skin stuff. So it is important to treat an indoor allergic cat always for fleas. I really liked the new seresto collars. There is a spot treatment called gentle calm works instant available at vet and online for any red spots. My dog has unknown allergies and gets a shot from vet monthly or did when I adopted him. recently I put a seresto collar on him and added salmon oil to his food and he has gone three months no shot. Also bathing a cat who is already itchy will affect the skin oil thing and make it worse. If you have no vet take advantage of the free first visits the chains offer get your Rx and a prescription you can refill. They hard sell pet insurance during free visits to chain store vet's FYI, it's not a good deal. Good luck. Oh and on the food , I started making my own , that's hard to keep up with so I found a lady on Facebook marketplace who makes and sells it. It's cheaper than the canned food at store now. |

BleachedPink1111 User ID: 24625847 United States 09/12/2021 02:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My cat is going on 16 years old, and I feed her pats of butter often. She craves it, and it helps her get more fat in her diet which will help with itchy dry skin and fur coat. I know you said she didn't have fleas, but maybe she did before they put the flea medicine on her? My cat is allergic to flea bites, so the few rare times she has gotten fleas, she over-itches and tears her neck up with her back claws until she is raw and bloody. Then I have to wrap her neck up for a while with medical wrap so she won't scratch. I worked at an animal hospital for a few years, and I had a suspicion that many of the animals were becoming allergic to the food because of the GMO wheat & flour fillers in the food. What brand of food are you feeding your cat? Try going with a grain-free brand if you haven't already. Switch it gradually. And definitely try supplementing with more real fatty foods such as eggs & butter & fish oil maybe. Tuna And NO FLEA COLLARS!!!!!!!! Those things are utter CRAP! And only keep fleas off the neck area. The real flea preventions are topical and go onto the skin on the upperback area. Fleas have become resistant to Frontline, so you want to use a different equivalent brand. Some work by sterilizing the fleas, and others work by poisoning them with seizures. And you have to beat the flea's life cycle by treating the pet for at least 3 months! That's how long it takes for the flea life cycle from egg to larva to adult flea. Anonymous Coward User ID: 75918290 Sweden 09/12/2021 04:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So now I’m thinking about bathing her. But it would take an army to bathe this cat. She doesn’t like to be held very long in the best of circumstances so trying to bathe her would be the beginning of WWIII. Quoting: two sheds I bathed my cat once. Or to be more exact, the entire family cooperated to bathe the cat. You need one hand to hold each paw to disarm the claws, and one hand to hold the head to disarm the fangs. This takes three people, and conveniently leaves one hand free to hold the shower nozzle. But even so, I guarantee we were all wetter than the cat when it was all over. It took several days before the cat forgave us for this assault on his dignity. Afterwards, we found a better way to clean a cat: douse your hand in water and pet it. The cat won't object much, it gets wet, and then it has to clean itself thoroughly. No useful advice on the itching though, sorry. |

LostReality33 User ID: 43651659 United States 09/12/2021 04:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sorry for the length of this post, thanks for any one who read it Quoting: two sheds My poor cat has been itching herself for a few months. I took her to the veterinarian and they first had me try a topical flee treatment which was a fail due to the fact she doesn’t have fleas. Next was the prednisone pill pop and pray she swallows, not spits. After a few spitouts I tried the prednisone compound meatball chew. I crumbled that into her wet food. She rarely eats past meal midpoint so never gets the full dose. So now I’m thinking about bathing her. But it would take an army to bathe this cat. She doesn’t like to be held very long in the best of circumstances so trying to bathe her would be the beginning of WWIII. Normally I wouldn’t be considering bathing her but what else is there? Vet wanted to try topical flea treatment even though I told them she doesn’t go outside, doesn’t have fleas, I’ve not seen a single flea or other critter on her or evidence. Anyway the flea treatment didn’t work just like I knew it wouldn’t so now my choice is prednisone tablets or chews, injections or some type of natural remedy. I don’t want to do the prednisone anymore or injections unless it’s last resort. I tried giving her a 1/2 teaspoon of fish oil on her food well she turned her nose at it. She is extremely finicky. I’ve since purchased a scented dry shampoo with colloidal oatmeal and other natural ingredients. I’m going to attempt to put it on my hands and try to rub it in to her skin. It says to “spray liberally onto fur.” ha.hAHaHHAAHHAAHAAA I’m so upset seeing her itching. It’s not a serious case as there are no bald spots but it’s enough that it’s bothering her I’m sure. I don’t want to keep giving her prednisone just because, drugs and unwanted side effects. ——————- 30 minutes later: welp that went pretty much like like I thought. (the dry shampoo rub plan) She took immediate notice of the strange new petting methods I was attempting and she was “NOT TODAY” halfway down the stairs instantly. Well I am becoming stressed out. I want to help her so much. But I don’t want to force pills down her throat or injections a) she will hate it and possibly become wary of me b) side effects I don’t want to forcibly restrain her to bathe her a) she will hate it and possibly become wary of me But I want to stop her itching. I don’t know what to do. I love her so much. Does anyone have any suggestions or opinions? Some more info: she never used to itch, she’s fed a high quality grain free diet; wet and dry, no change in diet, healthy weight, is played with, overall a healthy, energetic kitty with mysterious itching. Should I just let her itch vs forcing pills? Ugh Also does anyone make homemade cat food? What and how I’d be interested in knowing? Thanks in advance! Thanks for any helpful, thoughtful comments. She’s a sweet, loving wonderful cat who just doesn’t like to be held very long and difficult with medical stuff before any stupid “get rid of her” comments happen. Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh mew mew pls NEVER take ur cats to the vet EVER EVER !!! Unless they SNAPPED a F""" BONE (even then) NEVER take them 2 the vet Ur #1 red flag was when they wanted 2 give ur cat flea treatment meds next time like WTF OBVIOUSLY SHE DOESN"T HAVE FLEAS Fucking idiots !!! How about you STOP WASHING the POOR CAT ffs? If I was your cat id run away asap. But for some swimming in the wild CATS Do NOT BATHE with human made products. The dry bathe in dry dirt outside. You keep on washing its natural skin oils off of it. Also feed it some real food. You can get some good mackerel fish at the dollar tree store for $1. They love the fish and the watery juice the fish comes in. Try it the cat will go nuts just smelling it. Don’t feed it the plastic canned cat food. JMHO . This might be just an opinion, but it's a very good opinion. Basically, let cats Be cats. |

The vet told my mom that dogs are not people and dogs are animals and animals belong outside and if she allowed the dog to live outside as nature intended the dog would heal and would become healthy. its true. That being said, I'm a dog person. I have had a few cats in my lifetime but after 6 months with a cat inside my apartment the cat destroyed the carpet at the door trying to constantly get outside. I gave the cat to mom and the cat lived a happy life outside for many years. I know its not always possible but I truly believe cats and dogs do better outside. Soundman |
Catnahalf Deplorables assemble User ID: 71790446 United States 09/12/2021 06:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Oatmeal bath....yes, they make these for cats. If will help soothe the skin. I don't know what's causing the itching, but with my cat, I think it was stress. Is there anything different/new/upsetting to her? Something to check for. Quoting: Deplorable NO MORE Michele B In order to give her a bath, you've got to fill the sink FIRST - NOT have the water running while you try to dunk her. Fact: cats DO NOT like the water! I know you know this, I'm just saying. So, the bath water has to be filled in the sink, and the water at CAT BODY TEMPERATURE. In this way, they don't really even realize it's wet, cause it just feels like their own body temperature, and they won't realize it's W-A-T-E-R if you don't splash. You can kind of "dunk" her, full body in (except head). If you try to put back legs in first, she WILL fight and claw to get out. So if you kind of hold her with legs UP and back down into the sink first. DO NOT SPLASH AT ALL. Just kind of dunk her, and then turn her - very slowly - until she can touch the bottom with her feet, but DON"T let her head or ears get wet or she WILL go ballistic over that. You're not really "washing" her - at first, just holding her in it and letting her see you are not intending to drown her! If you can, put some of the oatmeal soap on her and use a cup to rinse off. With my cats, if I run the spigot, they will go ballistic. It's kind of got to be done with you ever-so-slowly and calmly so THEY don't get freaked. Some of my cats take a bath pretty easy, and some don't. You might need help, someone to help hold her, tho. It really helps if you have 2 people. One person to firmly hold both front legs one leg in each hand. |
GLPtard174 User ID: 80840431 United States 09/12/2021 06:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It all depends on what the problem is.. If it were fleas or mites, there is something called Revolution for cats. You can also get some diatomaceous Earth and try to get it under his coat. Downside of that is it goes airborne and not good to breathe. It also might dry the skin. If it were fungal you can try a sulfur dip. Maybe you can try just giving sponge bath style w sulfur dip solution and some cold process natural soap. Dissolve some soap and sulfur dip into water then soak towel in there then wring out and clean your kitty. |
