"Electric distribution utility employee here in Middle TN. Materials to get lights on are getting scarce.

I'm a Twenty four year electric distribution utility employee (to whom you pay your "light bill") and some of our materials and supplies are getting stupidly long delivery times.

Big substation transformers from one of our vendors are 80 weeks out. A year and a half plus two weeks. All American vendors are creeping out to 40+ I've heard.

Polemount transformers are 20-24 weeks. These are the ones that you see in front of your house. They get damaged by lightning and if a pole is broken by the wind they'll get bodyslammed into the ground and ruined.

A neighboring utility to mine has stated that if a major derecho event or tornado hits, there'll be months-long outages because they don't have in stock and can't get the material to restore service.

Even commodities such as bolts and insulators and AAC and ACSR conductors are getting scarce. We're told raw materials are in short supply.

Have yourself a generator, and have it where you can safely run your house as you see fit. My goal is to keep a couple little freezers going for as many weeks as possible..."

Australian Supermarket Shelves Are Empty After Truckers Go On Strike, Protesting COVID Tyranny
Posted today like 6 hrs ago.

Videos of empty shelves in Australia have gone viral on TikTok and Twitter after truckers went on strike this past week over the country's heavy-handed COVID tactics.

The video shows meat, fruit, and vegetables running out as the fight between the government and citizens heats up.

The Australian government has resorted to bringing out the military to enforce the most draconian lockdowns the world has seen

I'm not even going to say what was spent last year when I installed a 10kw back-up solar generator system for my home. I know gas isnt defendant on sunlight but fuel only lasts so long.

I'm not worried about losing air conditioning or lights. I'm worried about keeping the 300lbs of meats in my freezer cold or all the perishables I have in my other refrigerators cool, communication equipment charged, and my deep well lift pump operational for my water needs.

Also we have to keep in mind that as supplies tighten efforts will be made to stretch what is available. Which means quality will decrease. It’s a vicious cycle as companies try to fill the gaps and maintain margins.

I’ve been ready since 2008. Every year there’s supposed to be some kind of collapse, but it never happens. I hope it doesn’t happen, but if it happened, I think I’m prepared.

2008 was kinda messed up.
We watched our fuel go to 5 bucks a gallon and started hauling recyclables to the ports just to keep money flowing in the accounts.
It was a hungry time when people stopped spending.
Now companies and nations have stopped spending.
We may be ducked.

But not too thin either. Some healthy body fat is your reserve against want.

I figure a BMI of about 22 to 23 is close to ideal for these times. For most people anyway, owing to the imprecision of using the BMI.

Food is going to come up short as well. The heat in the west has taken its toll on this year's crops. Here's the latest on Idaho's potato crop. Looks like it may be a bust, so get used to McDucks being short on french fries. Hope Washington State's crop is better.....

"The hot, dry and smoky growing season has left some Idaho potato farmers bracing for a poor crop.

Randy Hardy of Oakley told the Idaho State Journal that his harvest will likely be the worst of his career. Statewide, spud farmers conducting test digs or early harvest are uprooting plants supporting no tubers. Where there are potatoes, there are fewer than normal, and most of the tubers are undersized and misshapen."

It's good that you've prepared.

This time seems different. As a regular consumer with no ties to any of these fields, I can see the impact that shortages are having on different industries- mainly construction/electrical, etc. and restaurants/food.

It's never a bad idea to stock up on things, as you don't know when a natural disaster could hit (or in this case, a man-made, political one).

Hold on tight, folks.
