I have a Fiat "world car" that's not allowed to be sold in the U.S. and it is awesome, zero breakdowns. Fiat pushes the B.S. off on the U.S., I'd never touch the crap they tried to push off on America. It is garbage. But they can certainly do it right, the models they sell in Mexico prove it. If you ever got your hands on a Palio Adventure you'd be a believer. I have no idea why they solde horse crap to the U.S.

Here is the FIAT that is simply too good for the United States. Seriously, I am clueless as to why Fiat decided to push garbage in the U.S.

Fiat palio adventure, THIS IS A REAL FIAT:

Fiat is shit and always has been. I had one way back during the gas crisis and it would have been cheaper to drive a 4X4 Ford with a 460..

Damned thing froze up and kinda mated with the ground one morning and I stripped out the clutch and transmission just trying to get it to move, and even the motor was shot.

What a piece of shit that was.

TOTAL GARBAGE
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80850667

I went down to 'ole Tony down at the Fiat garage and asked him; "what do you think man?"

His response stuck with me for 40 years and I never even got in a Fiat after that, it is still as funny now as it was that day

He just frowned and shrugged his shoulders and said ;"She's a-shot"

Re: 2019 Chevy Silverado needs $4,000 in repairs
Just bought the truck in November 2019.

It was brand new when I bought it, it is a work truck at only 70,000 miles it broke down on the highway it is less then two years old and cost $32,000 brand new, I still owe $29,000 on it, and the payments are $600 a month.

What would you all do?

The original estimate was $995 and they still have not repaired it my business has lost two weeks worth of work. WHen we had old 1994 Ford Cargo vans we didn't have $1500 in repair bills total, I also just put new tires on it.

The dealer told me Friday when I was supposed to pick up my repaired truck for $995 that it would be an extra $1000 now the bill is at $4,000.

Isn't this bait and switch and the dealer in Eden Prairie MN is beyond rude and claims this is our responsibility, refuses to help so does corporate.

Buyers be warned...
 Quoting: ItsJUNK 80064872

First off... The car is 2 years old, you've put almost 6 years worth of mileage on it, and you've somehow only paid down $3000 on the vehicle loan? Where did the other 8-10k in payments go?

Secondly... Where is the bait and switch? They offered a $995 estimate (key word here is estimate) and it ended up costing more. That is the way estimates go sometimes and is definitely not a bait and switch.

The repairs are 100% your responsibility, as I am positive that the warranty on the parts that broke is long gone at 70k miles. They were probably wear items anyways.

Something tells me this work truck has been worked hard.

What would I do? Well it's simple. Fix the truck if it is holding up business. To be sitting on this trying to weasel your way out is costing you even more money.

it's a POS!

i rebuild GM transmissions. You need something with a 4l80e in it. Older is better!

Anything new is a shitbox!

TRADE IT FOR RELIABILITY!

Yep, I have a 96 GMC Sierra 5 speed manual out back that was one of the best trucks I ever had.

It has the 4.3 liter V6 Vortec engine , got good mileage, had good power and went 275k before the head cracked and I parked it. It was my own stupidity that caused that too, I didn't fix a temperature sender and it overheated because the radiator got clogged with mud.

Bought a new vehicle in July 2020, have put on 11k miles with zero issues, only been in the shop for the regular oil change.

Oh and it's worth 20% more now than when I bought it.

Don’t ever buy used with 70k miles

You have no idea what they did with that truck

Clearly road hard

Try and trade out I guess

Everything is junk now
 Quoting: LastAmericanOutlaw

We didn't buy it used we bought it BRAND NEW in November of 2019 not even two years ago, we put 70,000 miles on it and new tires, regular oil changes it still looks PERFECT outside and inside it LOOKS brand new, and it broke down 3 weeks ago with only 70,000 miles on it.

We bought it with 0 miles on it. The warranty lasts until 60,000 miles.

Lifters and cam shaft at 70k

Just not possible

Perhaps a disgruntled employee??

Sounds like break fluid dumped in the oil to me

Definitely sabotage in some way

Good luck op
 Quoting: LastAmericanOutlaw

Nope - it is a problem with the cam and lifters. Especially, in the older models that first had the V4/V8 disabling of 4 cylinders. Head gaskets were also going out because of the temperature difference in active verses inactive cylinders. I found many complaints online. I wish I would have known before buying my 2018 Silverado. I planned to buy a Tundra but changed my mind and bought my first Chevy in forty so years. I am retired and don't drive many miles so my extended warranty will probably expire because issues surface.

Those things have never worked. Cadillac had it way back in the 70's and everyone disabled it. One of the complaints was that in the city it got worst mileage than one without it and of course the other was engine breakdowns.

You must be the car dealer at Eden Prairie chevrolet this is what the reply to my review said.

The warranty was done at 60,000 miles we don't work the truck hard at all! We drive country miles that is why they are so high and have only towed a small fishing boat 3 times, other then that we tow nothing! Lol.

Of course we have to pay to fix it, and who knows where the money goes we make our payments on time every month, that is what you call getting ripped off. Ask the bank where all that money went. LOLOLOL

I guarantee you they don't tell you when selling you the car it is going to break down at 70,000 miles only when you still owe four years of payments plus a few months and cost $4,160 to repair that it is only "routine maintenance" I assure you if they were upfront and honest with us we would've left.

This is the state of things today unfortunately. If you need a new half ton truck, get a Toyota. If you need bigger, you better have a pocketful of money to work on it. All 3 are putting out pure crap now. Engine, trans, electrical, etc. you name it is risky.

You can barely find parts and you can't trade it, because you can't find anything to trade for that's not more crap.

Your best bet is to pay the bill, unless you have a real contentious point to haggle, and carry on.

Thank you for clarifying about the 2018 Silverado having the same issue. Chevrolet knows about it, they CHOOSE to do nothing. There go to is to blame the customer for not buying the extended warranty, which would only last us another 30,000 miles only another year at best but we will still be paying on the extended warranty long after it is expired and useless, paying for repairs and expired warranties, what a joke.

I wouldn't touch a Ford,Chevvy,or any Chinese, or Korean Car with with a shitty stick.

Hence why I drive an Audi.(German)

With age comes wisdom.

Sure they are very expensive. My nearly new diesel Q5 cost me £30,000 $42,000 US

But they go on ,and on, and on. Will still be on the road in another 10 years.

Find any of the above listed makes not knocking their arse out,or rotting away at 90,000 miles.
 Quoting: Dogsbollocks

My neighbor who is an race engineer for Polaris takes very good care of his cars. He has too very fancy Audis sitting in his driveway with timing belts or could be chains (I don't drive Audis) that broke and destroyed his interference engines. He knows better than to not change a timing belt.

He might disagree with the engineering.

I dont know, the only one I ever owned was one that was practically identical to the one they sold in Europe called the Strada, and that thing was the biggest piece of shit I ever saw. it literally fell part in your hands. I bought it because the damned thing got 48mpg supposedly and gas was HIGH then, not as much in dolalrs but much more in buying power.

I never got better than 30mpg.

My dad had a Fiat 600 that DID come from Europe in European trim and he junked it after the first breakdown would cost more to fix it than he could get for it .

I dont know how many miles on it you have but if it is more than 20k you are living on borrowed time. Soon it will begin to disintegrate right out from under you.

Try this. Talk to the manager and explain you never agreed to the extra charge.

Tell him, “Listen, I’ll pay your extortion charge that I never agreed to, but then I will launch an all-out social media war on your business. I’m a marketing executive, so... Google, Facebook, everywhere. This is what I’ll be buying with my money.”

I’ve done this a few times and it works. For added effect, put on your best Jack Torrance and watch them back off.

If they don’t, post the SM links to their business here...

A thousand bucks is a thousand bucks.

Then stop going to shops and make a mechanic friend somewhere.

Thank you! :) Evidently this is a common problem in these brand new chevy silverados- we found that out when we were researching how to fix it on youtube, it seems do able to fix yourself it may take an entire week but fixable, it is just HORRIFIC the way Chevy corporate is not getting back to us, some lady named Jacqueline never returns calls, and the dealer says it's our responbility online in their own review they clearly don't care about their customers.

And the extended warranty guy- we can fix it, we are out loss of work and emberassment and strongly think others should know not everyone can take a $4,179 dollar hit plus another $179 towing bill on a their new truck. This may put many people out of business. Imagine if we had bought a fleet of these and had to pay employees to sit on their ass and wait for them to "repair" them. it could be way worse.
 Quoting: Op 80064872

First of all if you really were in business, you would rent or borrow a truck to complette your jobs. That is how business men do things.

Secondly, only a fool would take it to a dealer to fix it. You would know how long the warranty lasts and would have gotten an extended one or would have made other plans like fixing it yourself.

Any good businessman that relies on a work vehicle, knows a mechanic or shop that he uses to do maintance and repairs on your work vehicle.
Especially since all repairs are a tax deduction as a business expense.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7281309

Audi's Mercedes, BMW's,and now Volvos all of them are nice cars to drive and mechanical and electronic marvels, but when one breaks don you have better have deep pockets. The parts are astronomical if you can even get them, and the labor is off this planet high.

I do not recommend that a working man buy a used one thinking he is getting a good deal, you will be getting assraped, but if you have the money and or the knowledge to fix them they are very fun cars to drive.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7281309

It's great you should mention Polaris, there is an example of another company sucked down the toilet by globalization.

Back in the 70's the saying was if "SkiDoo is the way out" (that was their advertising campaign), Polaris is the way back. I dont know HOW many times I saw a Polaris pulling a SkiDoo out of the woods.
They made one thing and they made it well, snowmobiles, and they were the best on the planet, Japanese made Fuji Heavy Industries +engines on an American made chassis.

Now all Polaris sells mainly is ATV's and side by sides and they are crapola that falls apart and is broke down most of the time. I believe they switched from Japanese engines to Chinese ones on their side by sides and their snowmobiles look cheaply made and badly designed compared to the competition

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7281309

Those things have never worked. Cadillac had it way back in the 70's and everyone disabled it. One of the complaints was that in the city it got worst mileage than one without it and of course the other was engine breakdowns.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80850667

Unfortunately, GM, Dodge, and probably a few other manufactures provide a version of the cylinder disable as a standard feature. Even the corvette uses it. Thank heaven I bought when I did before all of the other crap was standard feature. Auto start/stop, pedestrian avoidance, cross traffic avoidance, emergency this/emergency that..

All of the above stuff is great until it breaks. I often wonder how it works in Minnesota were I live. I have heard frozen ice on the sensors plays hell.

Fuck the Feds. They tell me I need to die to save the planet, the snail darter and the whales because I'm generating too much CO2, and then make it a felony to take a device that is a CO2 generator off of my own car. A catalytic converter converts exhaust gasses into pure CO2 and Water vapor, both "greenhouse gasses"

OK...gothca.
