When the ash walls grow they can/do collapse in, when energy (heat) is expelled it will fling the ash up with the heat, Black Clouds, where there is a wall / crevice / river of lava it will billow a different colour 'cloud'. Day time temps are drier, night is damper, day time o2 is high, night c02 is higher...
