If something big happens it will be Breaking News all over the place.
But, most people will stay still and wait for the governments to tell them if they need to evacuate or not. Most people dont even know what is going on or that it may concern them. So we all have an advance.
Imho, if you leave early after the event you can reach higher lands and wait there to see what happens.
 Quoting: Ostria1

That.

We will be in Galveston this weekend doin post hurricane clean up at the vacay house.

Will keep an eye on this.

If she blows we will head out immediately.

What's the worst that could happen? We drive 2 hours home, nothing happens, and I feel like a dummy. On the other hand .... being oceanfront, on an island, is a very bad idea.
 Quoting: Ladye Jayne Smith

I don't think Galveston would be threatened by a tsunami from La Palma...
 Quoting: FeedYourHead

Depends on if, and how much, of the mountain falls into the sea.

Yes, it will wrap around Florida and head into the Gulf. Will not be anything like what hits the East Coast, and we are behind a 12 ft seawall, but even a 9 meter tsunami will blow over that.

I'd rather default to safety on that one. It's only a 2 hour drive back down, and my kids will be able to laugh at Doomy Mom for years if nothing happens.

"MINOR GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH: Confidence is growing that a CME might graze Earth's magnetic field on Sept. 17th, possibly sparking minor G1-class geomagnetic storms. The CME left the sun on Sept. 13th, propelled toward us by an exploding filament of magnetism. Tracking this CME has been tricky, because in coronagraph imagery it overlapped at least two other storm clouds. Confusion among simultaneous CMEs increased the uncertainty of the forecast."

Floridians, think highest elevation in Georgia. Your escape plan could include a $60/nt. room in an AirB&B in Sky Valley, GA at 3,500 ft, a 12-hour drive from Miami up to the Georgia mountains, as mentioned here. If this hits high and hard, you might want to be somewhere for a few days if you can. Just, plan that vacay, like, right now. High elevation.

Ok basically you're telling me that the person (Joe Biden) who was unable to deal with a evacuation of a few thousands of civilians in 2 weeks time that ended with some of them jumping from the landing gear in mid-air.... will be the same person who will have to deal with the evacuation of dozens of millions of people in a few hours??

I’m near DC does anyone know or care to share their thoughts on if we will be protected from the tsunami by the Delmarva peninsula?

Thanks
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80822778

IF it happens, and IF it triggers a tsunami even 1/3rd as big as some models show, the answer is likely that you will be flooded. The initial wave will wash over Delaware and the surge will push through the Chesapeake Bay and run through the Potomac like a firehose.

Make your plans to run for the mountains west.
 Quoting: Larphillips

Thank you.

Already have a bugout bag and 2 coolers packed, and several cases of water already in the car. First notice of this thing blowing, I’m out. I figure I’ll have a 2 hour head start on the masses.

Absolutely wise. If it happens and it hits at the maximum on some of the models, not only will there be wrap-around wave energy moving into the Gulf, but also significant water and debris from Florida being pushed into it as well.

If a tsunami hours the u.s. be prepared for a blackout and a possible nuclear disaster too. Heading inland will not be enough to get away from this thing. And what are all these people who escaped going to do when winter hits? It's going to starry getting cold soon.

This article was updated around midnight last night so
it isn't too old. It gives mileage of the closest cities
on La Palma from the volcano and the latest seismic stuff.

Just thought I'd post it in case anyone is interested.
