Cumbre Vieja volcano post eruption phase! Time to say goodbye for volcano-thank you for all support :)

This thing has been going gangbusters for the past 2 hours.

I thought I saw a significant landslide around 5:05 am and a handful of lightning flashes, too. It may have been an optical delusion due to the smoke, but I feel we'll see some new contours to this mountain when the sun rises.

The lava's really picking up now.

The Kilauea lava would seem to harden quickly and the new lava would just run on top of it. It's solid & cool enough for people to stand right next to the flow.


The La Palma lava seems to not harden as quickly, and the new lava melts down/around/into the previous lava around it, making new gorges, etc.

The tendency for the lava to melt back around itself seems to be more apt to cause a landslide/separation situation.

Like slippery lava lube.

I think you need to rethink the lava flows in hawaii. The flows, like in the tweets above. were 20 feet deep in most places along the flowing river. That's just the depth of the hot flowing lava, that flowed at 30 or moremiles per hrs for over 11 mi. Not hot I don't think so. I was there. And no you did not want to get close the flowing lava.

I'm thinking if this follows the same pattern of the 2nd creeper vent last night, it will eat away and eventually melt out that front left section, exposing even more. How the main is still holding back that pool at the top without spilling over is beyond me.
