So the physics of transmitted particle energy may not necessarily translate into a killer-sized wave of water from coastline to coastline.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77138015 It's only a question of the movement direction. If the plate moves horizontally, then no or only a small tsunami is triggered. But if parts of a breaking plate are moving up or down, then this will trigger for sure a large tsunami. If this happens at the atlantic ground, a vertical movement of a large mass, then goodnight. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80918408 Is it possible, what if there's a big enough shift or a jolt, that the entire chunk doesn't slide off, but rather drops a couple dozen feet like it did before in one big thud from the weight of tons of new lava/land added to the already cracking fracture lines. It would still "be attached" but enough of a drop to displace the seafloor outward? Would that do it? Quoting: eV3y I have a strong suspicion that we will see a number of new vents open until it gets to the point it will start crumbling down. Quoting: stress free Anything is possible with this type of event. It's like a giant game of Jenga....pull out the right block, your structure is ok. Pull-out the wrong support beam, TIIIIMMMBBERRRR!! Scary.
