Time to say goodbye for volcano-thank you for all support :) Lava was tested and they found that it is a tephritic magma (old), so it comes from the "C" storage. Quoting: Sancho0777 New magma from upper mantle (primary basalts) is pushing through to the "A" storage area (deep quakes). These chambers are partially filled. At the same time the magma is also moving to the "B" storage(8-12km). If we start to see quakes at the depth of less then 5km, it will indicate the "C" storage is starting to fill. The ongoing eruption is probably still from the "C" storage and once it is depleted it might stop. They are testing that lava all the time and when they start to see different composition it might indicate the primary magma. That might change the eruption type from strombolian to, if we lucky, hawaian, if we not, something worse. [imgur] [link to imgur.com (secure)] any link? Thank you for the explanation and visual! I was wondering what was going on at the different depths the quakes are occurring. . |

Lots of great information here and in the Report but pay close attention to the caption under the drawing. There are some assumptions about the drawing. Also the report was published in 2005. Here is the caption: Fig. 6. Model of magma storage and fractionation beneath Cumbre Vieja volcano (no vertical exaggeration). The magma storage systems in the uppermost mantle and lower crust are visualized as a plexus of interconnected magma pockets and sills/dikes. They are illustrated by an arbitrary number of blobs, where the active part of the storage system during a single eruption is shown in black and the older, partially or completely crystallized parts in gray gradients. The igneous activity causes uplift of the volcano and underlying crust as is indicated by fault lines. Major storage levels are indicated: (A) major crystal fractionation level, (B) short-time stagnation/underplating, (C) shallow intrusive core complex as indicated by fluid inclusions in a few samples [14]. Some localities of submarine samples are marked. Time to say goodbye for volcano-thank you for all support :) Although I think the Mantleplume Theory is wrong I hope now it's really a mantleplume. Because if it's a sinking down part of the layer below the crust, this would mean there is now a hole in this layer, only covered with some crust. And this hole is now full with hot lava from the deep. Quoting: OneOfFive I don't want to continue this thought. Please say the rest. Trying to understand more here. TIA If you want. My doom simulator says the crust could collapse and the whole area could plunge into the hole (they really should evacuate all people there). Enourmos amounts of water flowing into a giant lava sea, causing steam explosions with nuclear strenght, which are increasing the hole and ... Enough? New supervolcano. But there is a big difference between a supervolcano on land and a supervolcano in deep water. |
