That's what I think is happening.

Harmonic tremors would surge then stop. I think the lower magma chamber is now putting a lot of pressure on the upper chamber. Enough to crush the magma conduits near the surface.

That's why we saw a spectacular eruption just before silence. The magma that was shallow was blasted out when the deep pressure crushed the shallow rock layer.

Going with this theoretic....even if it were a "side flank explosion" and under water, wouldn't it STILL be catastrophic? I mean, would a blow out such as that also cause a collapse of some portion of the island anyway...and STILL lead to a tsunami? Albeit NOT NECESSARILY on the western coast directly aimed across the Atlantic Ocean at Americas.
