Sure, it might create some waves that may travel some distance, but it's dangerous only locally. The island is very small, and if a small fraction of it slides slowly down into the sea - it's not gonna destroy the US. You'd be lucky to detect a wave of a few inches. Some retarded scientists just wanted more money to spend a few winters there, with warm weather, cheap alcohol and sweet gals.
