I've never understood why people get so excited about killing animals. I've slaughtered plenty of animals and have never enjoyed it. It's just an unpleasant and sad job. Death is death. Never understood why people get so jazzed about hunting either. Unless you really love the taste more than beef. Most wild meat is dry and tough unless you cook it right. And venison tastes so much like beef. But I would rather raise my own meat and slaughter it myself rather than go hunting. Of course I know plenty of people who say they do it to fill their freezer, but when you take in licencing, guns, ammo, outfits it is probably more expensive to get meat through hunting in most cases. Even if your buying from a farmer.

So is it just getting out in nature and feeling all hunter gatherer? Or the thrill of the kill?

Haven't hunted PA, will you get velvet in 2 weeks still?

Same at my place this year, a lot of wild life hanging out here from the heat wave wanting the water. A bear has been hanging out in the front yard the last few weeks too.

I use my rifle for deer but practice and maintain a bow as well just in case.

It is easier to aim a bow with bad aging eye sight than a rifle if it does not have a scope. I had to swallow my pride and break down to get a scope just because of my eyes. I never needed one before and never missed, one shot drop every time. I am not willing to take chances of a miss due to bad eye sight and too much pride to use an advantage.

Yeah and they don't realize that deer have practically no natural predators on large scales after humans hunted the American black Wolf to exstinction.
Not only does hunting provide food , it balances the deer population , which in turn has massive effects on the bioms . For example deer tick populations , effect various bird populations, which in turn moves down the food chain to other insect populations, which in turn moves back up the food chain effecting those that eat them, and on it spins.Deer fuck shit up when allowed to over breed. They cause erosion in hillsides by over eating protective plants, which leads to flooding and landslides .

I would like to know how many of them buy packaged meat from the store supporting an industry that is one million times more cruel...just saying..this dude gets his own meat, while providing an actual service .

The price of beef at the store these days is insane. Ground beef that cost 98 cents a pound a few years ago is now over $4 a pound. A $3 steak a few years ago is now over $15. Add up the worth of 60 pounds of fresh free rang, humanely treated, environmentally friendly harvested organic red meat.

Wait until the snow flakes try growing a garden or survive being snowed in, in remote locations. The deer will not look so sweet and harmless when they devour all your crops and your are hungry.

The farmer who owns the field that borders my woods said he lost at about 12 out of 80 acres in that field this year to deer. Beans got completely mowed. Deer are a nuisance around here. I’ve hit two in my life with cars, despite being very careful. Did 5k damage to my wife’s SUV, and 14k in damage to my Boxster! They cost us all a ton in lost crops and damage.
