La Palma situation I am not too concerned about this. It looks like LaPalma might have an eruption. However, 10 centimeters of ground deflection means it will probably be mild. Mount St Helens deflected by hundreds of feet before blowing. A landslide causing a tsunami is also improbable. The big island of Hawaii has a fissure a lot worse than Lapalma and has been predicted to slide an enormous piece into the ocean repeatedly with every eruption and nothing has happened. Hawaii would do it a lot worse than LaPalma. That's pretty much all I have to say, the LaPalma situation bores me, I really do not think anything major will happen. And if it does, 7 hours warning before the tsunami hits is pretty good warning.  OH . . . well, now that you have established your credentials, perhaps you can instruct the 8.5 million of us here in New York City how it is that we can evacuate within 7 hours? Let's see: George Washington Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel, Holland Tunnel, Verrazzano Narrow Bridge. That's it. That's what we have to get out to the west. How is it that 8.5 Million of us manage to do that in 7 hours? If you are in half way decent shape you should be able to walk 3 miles per hour. 21 miles from NYC it seems should get you a good 300 ft above sea level. no? |
