We are about to run out of fuel. As a driver for many years, i can assure you there is no shortage of licence holders. We are suffering because of an excess of greedy managers who have literally undercut themselves out of the market. HI....I work for the The UK and Ireland Fuel Distributors Association (UKIFDA) and can assure you the UK IS NOT GOING TO RUN OUT OF FUEL. Obviously I respect you are posting your thread because it GLP but please....at least have some legitimacy. |

No improvement of driver's conditions, no recruitment of the young, etc. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70579597 The inconvenience is to condition you in to accepting never ending immigration to solve things - a kind of soft genocide. The solution will never be encouraging British people to have more children, it will always be importing more Pakistanis, Sub-Saharans, etc. This has nothing to do with Brexit. Most European countries are dealing with driver shortages right now. Last Edited by Mustydog on 09/25/2021 09:12 PM |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80885947 United Kingdom 09/25/2021 09:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Shortages are nearly all fake news. Over a year of Covid restrictions and the country managed to tickle along pretty happily. Then, out of the blue the country did not have enough lorry drivers, while Amazon, Uber and the like are able to find drivers by the thousand. When I was 18, I was given the keys to a 7.5 Ton box lorry and was driving around narrow car lined streets in central London and other town centres doing 20 - 30 drops a day. O.K. ridged trucks may be twice as long as the once ubiquitous 7.5 tonner, though with the 5 foot tail lift down it starts to come close, no power steering, no full syncro-meshed gear box, heavy clutch, no sat-nav, no reversing beeper no automatic reversing light. By the end of the day, arms an shoulder would ache due to the pulling and pushing of the steering wheel, yanking on the gear leaver, slow, tight manoeuvring. In those days class 1 (artic) driving schools offered 2 week (80 hour) course and guaranteed test pass (or free extra training / refund on the second test fee) They were that confident about drivers passing first go. There was no requirement for any kind of experience - straight into a Class 1 vehicle. Modern lorries are like driving a comfortable car, many having fully automatic transmissions. An experienced HGV Class 1 driver admitted to me that he found driving a big car with a big caravan was more difficult to reverse than an artic (mainly due to the poor mirrors and centre axle on a caravan. Modern loading facilities are all designed to be tackled in one direction, rarely requiring intricate manoeuvring. Lorries are also able to creep. Lorry drivers' pay and conditions suck, especially the need for over-night stops, all the bullshit regulations, paperwork, rest stops and DOT checks. The common use of agency staff, umbrella contracts, irregular hours and unfamiliar routes / runs / loads / loading / unloading / unfamiliar / dirty vehicles. Driver agencies and the customers they contract for learned they could treat Eastern European drivers like shit, this then filtered down to all drivers as wages eroded. Many companies that employed drivers on decent salaries soon learned to outsource the job to greedy, scumbag agencies. The kick-back has started. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80885947 United Kingdom 09/25/2021 10:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This has nothing to do with Brexit. Most European countries are dealing with driver shortages right now. Quoting: Mustydog Not entirely true... UK driver Agencies encouraged Eastern European drivers by showing them how they could claim generous UK child support and tax credits for children back in their home country, making the otherwise low (Agency) wages very palatable. (This has also been the case for many other low paid low skill UK jobs for Eastern European workers). Companies could not resist outsourcing their drivers, given the savings and also off-loading ever more responsibilities / liabilities that built up over years in the EU. European drivers are not going to come back to the UK without UK child benefit, income support and subsidies. The Agencies will need to give substantial wage increase to make up the short fall. So Eastern European drivers will choose France or Germany, with the bonus of getting home more often. Fuck the Agencies, Fuck companies who screwed drivers outsourcing once decent paying jobs. Fuck the government who have made lorry drivers lives into a regulation and paperwork nightmare. Most of all, fuck the EU who are now having to face up to all the corrupt tax payer money-go-round theft. Brexit was the only the canary in the coal mine, that fell off the perch way more than 5 years ago. |

Quoting: Cannabis Kills People!.... Bullshit, it was (German) EU mandated child support subsidies designed to increase the UK Stirling debt, syphoning the money into the (German) Euro currency, so exporting (German) Euro inflation to poorer (German Euro) Eastern European countries, enabling them to buy German (Euro) goods. If Germany had not tricked Europe into a single (German) currency (known as the Euro) German goods priced in Deutsche Marks they would now be totally unaffordable across the world. Correct there is no fuel shortage... The fuel shortage is ORCHESTRATED as part of a psychological plan to push the new crisis which will be called "The Climate Crisis" and it will be....wait for it.............' all YOUR fault, joe public'.. Quoting: Agent Smith 2014 You totally contradict yourself There is a fuel shortage if you have an empty tank, and are forced to queues for an indeterminate time waiting for others who are busily brimming up sucking the station dry or causing rationing. In Soviet Russia, there were no shortages, just people queueing up waiting and hoping to be served. Or does the words: "Toilet Paper" and £Empty Shelf" mean anything to you. There was no shortage of petrol back in the 1970's when stations closed to save petrol for "regular customers". Been there done that, saw the panic and anger. Also remember the fear back in the early 2000's. |
