Thanks To GLP I Have A Stash Of Ramen Noodles & Ravioli That Expired In 2007 - Would You Eat It?
Been here in one form or another since 2002. During the great comet scare of 2006 or so I stockpiled cases of ramen and ravioli. I actually have a walk in closet full of cases!

During that period there was an unexpected sky event over Norway! Comet 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann is suspected of having a rouge chunk that airblasted.

If SHTF now I would have no trouble eating it in the short term even though it is 14 years past the best by dates.

Sample the stuff.....I mostly rotate my stuff and whatever I don't normally eat in rotation, I donate to the food banks.....the freeze dried food has a best by date of 30yrs.....the downside is needing water to rehydrate them.....I eaten Vietnam era issued freeze dried food and no problems.....

Of the canned stuff, I find ramen goes rancid in 4yrs due to the oils.....I safely eaten 16yr old cans of spam tho.....even dried beans becomes problematic after 10 yrs .....I had beans that won't soften ......they are edible when ground down into a flour tho....

If the can's aren't bulging you're good. I would definitely rinse the wax off the ramen

I've eaten a WW2 mre spaghetti that was no worse for the wear within the past decade. Not great, but it was never intended to be good anyway.

You need to watch the documentary on those noodles and what they really are and doing to your body. It's poison. You should never eat that crap.

The ramen is the dehydrated kind so I think it will keep indefinitely...right? It's probably safer than most fast foods anyway. Just tons of sodium.

I think most people would get the most bang for the buck with a long term food storage based around beans and rice.....I recently cracked open a pail of white rice I sealed in the mid 80's with oxygen absorber packs and nitrogen gas.....the rice boiled up fine and tasted fine....

beans and rice are a cheap staple that people can buy quantity and its a good base to build on.....

I actually ate 14 year old ravioli recently (chefboyardee)

It was a bit “hard” but tasted fine. I didn’t even get the shits.
Raman noodles, I wouldn’t worry about.

You ate a C ration then....MREs wasn't issued til the 80's.....I started in the military with C rations and got to be the guinea pig for the first generation MREs.....they had problems.....pinhole and bad sealing swelled up many rations....they also didn't have enough calories for active soldiers.....The Freeze dried food I had were LRRP rations....I saved a few from my army days that I recently discovered in the basement.....lol....I also bought some surplus Mountain house #10 cans of freeze dried beef intended for the navy subs...

Given a choice, we would pick the crats over the early MREs....Meals Rejected by Ethiopians.....

I'd eat the dried ramen, but not the (presumably) canned ravioli.

BTW
Most expiration dates are there so you’ll trash it and buy more.
That applies to most products.

yep.. even food banks will accept items 5 years past exp date, except tomato and citrus products. 2 years for those.

Thanks to GLP, or thanks to you for not cleaning out your pantry in 14 years?
