Mike Patton

He did have a full range.
If we are talking about pure singers maybe Freddy Mecury gets a nod?
Not a huge Queen fan, but he undeniably had a strong voice..

I typically don't have favorites ..but I can narrow it down a little ..
Depends on Genre like all things with me.And I will keep it mainstream , and off the top of the mood at the moment
Also my judging comes from pure singing skills , strength of voice ..not how it reaches me emotively...that as I gather it is a dif topic.

Best Yarler : Le Stanley.....

best Grunge : Chris Cornell ( Vedder gets a nod but I can't understand anything he says)

Best Metal : Maynard

Best Folk rock: Joni Mitchell ..Linda Ronstadt

Best disco rock: The Bee Gees

Best Funk rock PRINCE

Best Country rock.. Emmylou Harris ......First Aid kit( these girls are amazing btw check them out)

Best classic rock.....hmmm tough one.
: The Beatles. The Beach Boys ....Roberta Flack....The Four Seasons...
Roy Orbison ....Crosby Still Nash and Young
Bill Withers.

Best Fusion rock /hip hop/jazz. Loren Hill...Amy Winehouse ....Hiatus Kaiyote

Best soul /rock..Al Green ...Otis Redding .....Arethra Franklin...Nina Simone..

Re: Doom Break with Poll - Greatest Singer in Rock History
Kind of a poor list of choices on the poll....

Great Singers?
Elvis
Levon Helm
Bob Dylan
Steve Winwood
Van Morrison
Jim Morrison
Lou Christie
Ellton John
Janis Joplin
Grace Slick
Ronnie Spector
Paul McCartney
Marvin Gaye
Al Green
Sam Cooke
Gregg Allman

Greatest Voice?
Dylan Clayton Thomas of Blood, Sweat & Tears
Steve Winwood w/Traffic, Blind Faith, & solo
Van Morrison w/ Them & solo
Janis Joplin w/Big Brother & solo
Dylan for early work on up to Blood On The Tracks
Elton John early work up to Goodbye Yellowbrick Road
Levon Helm for everything done w/The Band

So... who sang The Greatest Song in Rock & Roll History?

My favorite is Levon Helm doing The Weight with The Band, runner ups King Harvest Has Surely Come, and Cripple Creek

Most likely greatest song though is Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones with Mick Jagger singing.

Then there is Ronnie Spector doing the lead for Be My Baby with the Ronnettes...

Has any great voice been more prolific and consistent than Van Morrison?

Greatest voice for Blues-Rock?
Robert Plant w/Led Zeppelin

Greatest Folk-Americana Voice?
Gordon Lightfoot, a Canadian
Lots of Great Canadian Voices out there...

Most unique voice of notable success?
Donald Fagen Steey Dan & especialy solo on The Nightfly

There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened.

David Coverdale was better than most on this weak list. Chris Cornell was right up there also.
 Quoting: Stephenbroman

Yup. Coverdale is tops on my list. I would also put Dio, Bruce Dickinson and Geoff Tate above some of them on OP's list.

Though certainly not the greatest I always enjoyed Danny Joe Brown from Molly Hatchet's singing....

And one singer/blues man that I do count among the greatest:

Of your List Robert Plant

Then Sebitchen Bach

Axel Rose

Klaus Meine

Dio

Ozzy

Rod Stewart

Jagger

David Lee Roth in his prime

List is randomized a bit. My faves to hear would re arrange it a bit.
 Quoting: BasiliusValentinus

Jagger? No way, man. A great singer he's not - and never was. Hey I love the Stones. Love Mick. But a great singer? Naw.

Roy Orbison.

I voted none of the above, but Freddie Mercury is the best on your list.

No love for Bono’s voice I see. Don’t like his associations, but you can’t tell me his voice doesn’t have amazing range and power.
