They are right next to China, aquatically, they will want small fast and versatile craft. And yep... Check their fleet structure, and the largest craft they have is Destroyers and Fast Combat Support Craft. No tenders/supply ships, etc. I would want PT boat designs for sinking transports, but it looks like they use attack subs. Midwest Skeptic User ID: 80570749 United States 10/06/2021 09:00 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Aircraft Carriers are now OLD technology when it comes to a major war. OK for use against countries that do NOT have an airforce, but for anyone else their survival time is probably measured mostly in hours, not weeks. ALL old ships go to the Breakers eventually. The reasons are simple things called "RUST", moving parts "WEARING OUT", and the twisting and pounding a ship takes over the years wears out the tensile strength of it's steel bones. Even not so old Cruise Ships go to the breakers, and when they do they still look GREAT ... to outsiders. If things didn't wear out from the above forces ... well you would still be driving your parent's 1965 Ford Fairlane or Chevy Belair as your daily driver car and it would be up over 3 million miles on the odometer. DO YOU? Aircraft Carriers are not just ships that rust, they are a mass of moving parts that also rust and wear out and it takes continual massive maintenance to keep them operating, if it didn't we wouldn't need to send our carriers in for a MULTI YEAR overhaul about half way through their life. Kitty Hawk was commissioned in 1961 and was decommissioned in 2009, so it has been sitting around for 12 years since it last sailed so you can be certain that to turn it back into a fully operational carrier would take at least a couple of years of work and hundreds of millions, if not a billion +, dollars. The John F. Kennedy was commissioned in 1968 and was also decommissioned in 2009, so it also has been sitting around for 12 years and would also need at least hundreds of millions of maintenance and repair work before it could again be a fully operational carrier. 40 years of active salt water sea duty is a LONG time for an ocean going ship due to the salt water/air corrosion issue, and both of those made it that far. Sure Great Lakes freighers can last 80 years+, but they are operating in a FRESH WATER environment and these boats were NOT. Storage hasn't done them any favors either. Time to break them up. Put a few VTOL planes and helicopters on them and use them for lighter duty. (scouting, sub hunting, rescue of downed pilots, Simple refueling point. Or use them in harm's way. If you think a carrier might not last long, put in the junker. They also have or could be fitted with CIWS weapons. Rolling airframe missiles, and the R2D2 high speed cannons. Also makes a great observation tower. Justme |

We actually considered a fix-up . . . "US Navy officials extended Kitty Hawk's stay in the reserve inactive fleet and considered the possibility of recommissioning her to help with the buildup."[49] " She was officially decommissioned on 12 May 2009 after almost 49 years of service." ("she loved us for a long time"-but their are diminishing returns on Billions in cost for a few more years) ON the $0.01 deal... the removal of environmentally unsafe materials does cost millions when the steel is broken down to be sold...(so a good deal probably for both. JFK was a GOOD President.(I was too young for his election but I would have voted for NIXON ( ; ) aND YES there were purchased votes in the 1960 election (Chicago at least)JFK's Father a womanizer bragged "he was willing to purchase votes, he just didn't want to pay for a landside" !, but Nixon thought it best at that time, for our nation, Not fight it out over them! "After nearly 40 years of service in the United States Navy, John F. Kennedy was officially decommissioned on 1 August 2007. She is berthed at the NAVSEA Inactive Ships On-site Maintenance facility in Philadelphia, formerly the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, and, until late 2017, was available for donation as a museum and memorial to a qualified organization.[2][7] In late 2017, the Navy revoked her "donation hold" status and designated her for dismantling." If you want to live by “free housing” go live in section 8 area. See how that works for you. I bet it’s a lot different than the uppity millionaire residences. I was on the Shitty Kitty near the end of her life in active duty. A major rust bucket barely staying afloat. She was 49 years which is amazing. She was kept around only because of the SOFA with Japan not allowing Nukes. When we were abled to put a nuke carrier there we could finally retire the Kitty Hawk. there was no service life left in her. She was run hard and long and performed well... Scrappers have a big job in breaking her down while not violating EPA laws, so you basically have to give them away I know a thing or two, because I've seen a thing or two. |
