From what I have read one of the concerns is the water that is trapped in the ridge with no way to escape. If the magma breaches those aquifers that are sealed in by previous dykes of magma there could be a massive explosion a la Krakatoa.

Read another post about water being trapped in one of the magma chambers that could get vented with magma which could cause a big eruption.

Would be curious where he read this... can't find it in a search.

For the eastern coast of the United States to be hit by a good sizes tsunami. La Palma volcano's will have to have a explosion 10 time more powerful than Thera volcano exploding. Thera volcano explosion was ten times more powerful than any volcano's that exploded since it blow itself apart.
