Also, as long as you don’t buy into the whole “the spike is a secret prion weapon” thing, then there’s no reason to think this will be any better in terms of the long term health complications outside the lungs (which do appear to fare better).

The virus ages you by like 5-10 years in terms of immune system health, and can still infect neurons, and appears to do all the same sorts of tissue damage. At best we’ve gone from 1% of people dropping dead right away to half those people dying and the other half dying a little later.

In the meantime, the virus now has the ability to replicate far faster, exploring its evolutionary space that much quicker, has more species available to infect, and has a new cell entry route. Widespread infection will likely lead to more of a “lull” afterward this time (unless we have a significant variant in that time), but antigenic drift will be strongly selected for due to wider immunity.

As for being more mild, it is somewhat, but you may not have noticed hospitalizations are at an all time high. This is the magical solution we’re given?

I really wish you’d stop with this game of pretending we’re in a spy thriller, and that you have the secret inside scoop. If you have ideas feel free to share them, but do it with a little humility and realism please.

Unfortunately, TMPRSS-2 is no longer necessary for viral entry for omicron, as it utilizes a route 2 infection. So this won’t be all that helpful.

Just a FYI. Received an email at work yesterday stating they highly recommend another booster shot. With this they stated that the J and J would not be available to our state as the state is refusing it. This is in Pennsylvania.

d_senti - I am aware of the two routes - Omicron has swapped over to using endosomal 'Route2', as you call it.. which means in theory it does not affect the lung tissue (ACE2+TMPRSS2) so much. More upper respiratory infection, sure.

AFAIK, endosomal 'route 2' still uses ACE2 to grip on, but does not lyse with TMPRSS2.

Omicron also *now* more susceptible to Route2 blockers, like HCQ. Cathepsins too.

I missed the Cathepsin part completely; you are correct! In theory it could be used as a treatment.
